Audrey McNichols' Memorial Mass Video Audrey L. McNichols, age 87 of Matlacha, FL passed away peacefully at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau on Tuesday, June 28, 2022. Audrey was born on May 17, 1935 in Green Bay to Lloyd and Rosamonda "Rose" (Peterson) Collar. She graduated from Hortonville High School in 1953, where she was active in band, choir, and cheerleading. On September 29, 1956, she married James W. McNichols at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Hortonville. After traveling for a few years for Jim's military service, they settled in the Stevens Point area to raise their eight children. Audrey loved being a mother and gave most of her time and energy to being a homemaker. She worked briefly as a bookkeeper for the Wolohan Lumber Co and also served a role in implementing Sentry Insurance's "2000 Project" in the 1980's. In the late 1990's, she and Jim purchased a lake property in Keshena, WI, where they eventually built their dream home and made many wonderful memories hosting their family and friends for close to 20 years. Upon retirement, they purchased a home in Matlacha, FL, where they continued to welcome many visitors every winter. Audrey loved spending time with her large family and always kept a beautiful and inviting home. Throughout her life, Audrey enjoyed traveling, fishing, quilting, antiquing, and gardening, and she especially loved sharing these activities with her friends and family. She and Jim took their family on many memorable road trips throughout the United States. After retirement, they especially loved taking their motor home to the mountains of Montana and the great wilderness of Alaska, where Audrey passed many hours fishing for halibut. They also spent a memorable month traveling across Europe, while visiting their son Mike and his family.
Audrey is survived by her loving husband, James and their children; Marianne (Donald) Zuehlke, Shawano, WI, Michelle (Robert) Olla, Amherst, WI, Steven (Brenda) McNichols, Janesville, WI, Michael (Polly) McNichols, Silverdale, WA, Stephanie (Daryle) Hanson, Steven Point, WI, Kevin (Jody) McNichols, Bancroft, WI, Brian (Michelle) McNichols, Hortonville, WI and Kellie (Allen) Steichen, Rochester, MN. She is further survived by 23 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Roseann Wunderlich, Charlene (David) Dulske, Catherine (David) Kramer and many in-laws from the McNichols family. She will be fondly remembered by her many loving nieces, nephews, countless other friends and relatives.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Keith and Wayne Collar; brothers-in-law, Jack Wunderlich and Joseph Retzke and sister-in-law, Jenny Collar.
The Memorial Mass for Audrey will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Hortonville. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the mass. Burial will be in Hortonville Union Cemetery, Hortonville.
In lieu of flowers and other expressions of sympathy, memorial may be made to Hager House Women's Shelter in Wausau.
