Barbara Gruening's Memorial Service Video

Barbara Ann Gruening, age 88, of New London, Wisconsin, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023. Barbara was born in Wausau on September 14, 1934 to the late Roman and Eleanor (Schneck) Holzem. She married Wally Gruening on October 9, 1954. She took care of the home and their four children.

Barbara enjoyed golfing, working on puzzles, crocheting, and sewing, and playing games, such as dominoes and bridge. She loved attending the symphony and other live music events. But her greatest passion was working with the Hospital Auxiliary for many years, where she served on the board in various positions. Barb was also a caregiver, lovingly caring for Wally after he had his stroke.

Barb is survived by her children, Kandy (Mark) Stamborski, Kerry Gruening, Mike Gruening, and Peggy (Kevin) Taylor; grandchildren, Danielle Stamborski, Trista Taylor, and Tessa Taylor.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Roman and Eleanor; husband, Wally; brothers, Warren Holzem and Claude Holzem; and grandson, Thomas Stamborski.

The family wishes to thank the staff at both ThedaCare Hospice and Washington Center for their compassion and care given to Barb.

The Memorial Service for Barb will be held at 12p.m. noon on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at St. Joseph's Residence in New London, Wisconsin, with Father John Kleinschmidt officiating. Visitation will take place on the same day, at the chapel from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery, New London.
