Barbara Jo
Peterson
February 12, 1956 – May 18, 2024
Peacefully and surrounded by her family at home, Barbara Peterson passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at the age of 68 years. Barbara was born in Norfolk, Virginia on February 12, 1956 to the late Charles and Pat (Looney) Bain, one of three children. She married Dan Peterson in Kimberly, Wisconsin on July 23, 1977 and made New London their home. Barbara and Dan brought two children into the world and six grandchildren.
Barbara was a merchandiser of greeting cards for over 25 years, working with Gibson Greetings and American Greetings. In her free time, she enjoyed walking on the trails at High Cliff with Dan. In the 70's, they would park their cars in the quarry area and listen to music at an "appropriate" volume. The joy that brought them together led to many camping trips over the years, where she fell in love with canoeing and bicycling on the state trails. They traveled to many corners of Wisconsin on these trips and Barb's favorite place to camp was Indian Trails. She was a hard worker who always persevered, but she was an expert in relaxation while camping, always finding the joy in life's simple pleasures. Barb liked gardening and reading, and she also enjoyed sports, especially watching the Packers and the Bucks. She was an expert at thrifting and could always find a diamond in the rough.
Barb is survived by her loving husband, Dan of 46 years; their two children, Jesse (Julia) and Sarah (Steven); grandchildren, Michael, Brynn, Samuel, Shawn, Seth and Scarlet; her brother, Steven (Sarka); many nieces, nephews and friends, to all of whom she leaves behind a legacy of love.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Pat; her sister, Julie; and her in-laws, Delbert and Barbara Peterson.
Our family will be forever thankful for the kindness, compassion and love shown by all of our family and friends, especially, in-laws, Mark and Julie Peterson; neighbors, Beth and Eric; Dr. Harsha Poola and the entire Oncology Nursing Staff; along with Dr. Renae Schuler and ThedaCare Neenah.
The Memorial Service for Barbara will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at High Cliff State Park Indoor Pavilion (N7630 State Park Rd, Sherwood WI 54169). A gathering of family and friends will take place from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the Memorial Service.
