Charles "Charlie" George Thomas Jr. age 76 of New London passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at home with those he loved by his side.  Charlie courageously battled cancer and maintained a positive attitude and happy spirit. He was born on July 28, 1947 in New London, the son of the late Charles G. and Mary (Dernbach) Thomas Sr.  Charlie graduated from New London Washington High School, with the class of 1966.  He went on to honorably serve his country in the Vietnam War in the US Army. Charlie married Carole Sics (St. Cyr) on August 6, 1983 in Appleton. After more than 40 years at Amcor (Curwood), Charlie retired along with Carole.  His retirement years were good ones. Charlie was adventurous and fun-loving.  He especially enjoyed trips to the casino and was a horseracing fan.  From time to time, he was known to place a bet on a pony or two.  He never bet much, but when he won EVERYBODY knew it!  His laughter was contagious. Charlie enjoyed working at his home, and was able to do many things himself- from building to upholstery.  He enjoyed working alongside his father-in-law, Elmer.  Elmer never missed an opportunity to be able to cuss and be a regular guy around Charlie. Charlie was a good and loving husband and father.  He was very shy. Charlie loved to be where the action was, but took a chair on the sideline and said little.  In Carole's words- "He wasn't much fun to talk to on the phone."

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carole; daughter, Melanie A. (Tim) Giles; grandchildren, A.J. (Caitlin) Sics and Melissa (Andrew) Hughes and his siblings, Julie (David) Grey and George (Debrah) Thomas, as well as great-grandchildren and numerous other family and many friends.

Charlie was preceded in death by his son, Andrejs D. Sics; his parents and his in-laws.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 7, 2023 at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in New London with Fr. John Kleinschmidt officiating.  The visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the mass at the church.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery, where full military honors will be held.

Charlie's family wants to thank Donna Steinke for her dedication and love.  Additionally, thank you to St. Paul Elder Services in Kaukauna and ThedaCare Hospice.
