Corinne "Sis" A. Conat, age 89, passed away on January 17th, 2026 at Care Partners Assisted Living in Clintonville. She was born August 22, 1936 to Clemens and Ruth (Herminath) Thorpe. She graduated from Washington High School with the class of 1954. She married Gordon Conat on June 22, 1957 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London. Gordon preceded her in death in 2012. Corinne enjoyed traveling, fishing, rummage sales, and camping with friends. She worked at First State Bank for over 40 years. She belonged to the VFW Post 2732 Auxiliary and volunteered many hours helping out in the kitchen. She was also a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church. Her greatest accomplishment in life, however, was her twin boys Dennis and Don.
Corinne was a strong willed, fiercely independent, loyal, and hard working woman. She passed these values on to her children and grandchildren. She was well known to friends and family for her cooking and baking, hosting her annual rummage sales, and fish fries at the river lot. Her house often smelled of fresh bread, homemade pies, and she was always ready to serve a meal to whomever stopped in for lunch or supper. She was a loving and committed grandmother who helped raise her six grandchildren. She loved to show the grandkids how to shock night crawlers in the yard, take them fishing at the raft, feed her beloved birds in the yard, and catch (and release) those pesky squirrels that would get into the bird feeders. She had a special way of easing an upset tummy with her delicious chicken noodle soup or her endless supply of "kool-pop" freezie pops. She was always prepared to assist the hunters in the family with her warm meals, deer processing in the garage, or turning her kitchen into a temporary meat packaging counter. The tragic death of her granddaughter Kimberly in 2016 was deeply devastating to her and she looked forward to seeing her in heaven again some day. But even as she fought an aging mind and body, her deepest joy was when her grandchildren and great grandchildren would visit. She loved to rock the babies, sing lullabies, bring out her bins of toys, and watch the children laugh and play. Corinne will be greatly missed by her sons, her grandchildren, great grandchildren, family, and friends.
Corinne is survived by her sons Dennis and Don; by five of her six grandchildren Kelly (Zac) Dunbar, Shannon (Taylor) Conat, Emily (Patrick) Lawton, Krissy (Jerry) Samson, and Ryan (Steffany) Conat; her 11 great grandchildren Evan, Ellie, Roselyn, Fletcher, Calliway, Tanner, Malia, Riley, Cole, Cade, and Colt; brother Earl Thorpe; sisters-in-law Donna Thorpe and Lillian Conat; along with several nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon Conat; her parents Clemens and Ruth Thorpe; her brothers Glen and Larry Thorpe; her father-in-law and mother-in-law Laurel and Alma Conat; brothers in-law James, Duane, and Lloyd Conat; Sister-in-law Barbara Thorpe; and granddaughter Kimberly Grunwald (survived by husband Mark & son Tanner).
The Funeral Service for Corinne will be held at 11:00am on Friday, January 23rd, 2026 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London with Rev. William Heiges officiating. The visitation will take place at 9:00am until the time of service. Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery, New London.
Her family would like to thank Moments Hospice for their delicate and attentive care, ThedaCare Hospitals in New London and Neenah, and Care Partners Assisted Living in Clintonville for showing care and compassion throughout mom's end of life journey.
