Obituary

Corky E. Evans, 76, passed away at St. Paul Elder Services in Kaukauna, WI on August 21, 2022.

He was born in Dodgeville, WI, to JoAnn (Rock) and Ralph Evans.

Corky grew up on a dairy farm outside of Dodgeville; attended St. Joseph's elementary and graduated from Dodgeville High School in 1964.

Corky met the love of his life, Eileen Paterick in the spring of 1969 on a blind date arranged by Corky's cousin and Eileen's childhood friend.  After months of letter writing between the two while Eileen was on a European trip and Corky in spring training, Eileen received her 100th letter with Corky's proposal.  They married in January 1970 in Janesville, WI.  The newlyweds started an adventurous life together while Corky played professional baseball that took them to Arizona, California and Texas.  In 1978 Corky and Eileen moved to New London, WI making their life there raising two kids, supporting them in all their activities, teaching in the school district, and volunteering in the community.

Corky was a generous, salt-of-the-earth Wisconsinite who rarely met a stranger. He was enthusiastic about sports, proud to have played 3 sports for the Dodgeville Dodgers, to have played Minor League baseball, to have coached for the New London Bulldogs, and to have supported many Wisconsin sports teams.

In the words of his beloved wife, found in a letter after her passing: she writes, "Corky is an incredible person.  He is my hero and my best friend.  We made a great team on this journey of life.  I have and will always love him with all my heart."

Corky is predeceased by his wife Eileen (2021), his parents JoAnn (2007) and Ralph (2010), brother Joe Evans (2017) and aunt Margaret Rock (2015).

Corky is survived by his brother John Evans; children Cory Evans (Catherine), Tatum Evans (Tim Magner); grandchildren Sybil and Gordon Evans.

A joint funeral service for Corky and Eileen will be held in Dodgeville sometime in the fall.

Corky's family is grateful for their extended family within St. Paul Elder Services and Hospice Care.  Specifically the friends, staff, and care providers of Poppy Path who showed genuine compassion and kindness during his time in the neighborhood.  You were all a 'bud' in his eyes.

To honor Corky, please consider making a donation in his name to the Corky Evans Legacy Scholarship of the Dodgeville Area Scholarship Foundation ( http://dodgevilleareascholarship.com ).
