Obituary

Dale E. Roberts, age 89, of New London, passed away at the V.A. in King on July 10, 2026. The disease, dementia, slowly took pieces of the man his family knew and loved.

Dale was born on July 7, 1937 in New London, Wisconsin. He was the son of Earl and June (Hobbs) Roberts. He graduated from New London High School in 1956 and entered the Marine Corps, where he served until 1958, and made many lifetime friendships. He spent his career at the Neenah Foundry, retiring after 38 years. He married Patricia Hoag on October 15, 1960.

One of Dale’s joys was spending time in the garden with his beloved wife, Patty. Together they spent countless hours planting, weeding, and harvesting their garden, generously sharing everything they picked. They were best known for their homemade shake pickles. Dale also loved to fish, especially off the dock for walleye in the spring. His homemade fishing jigs were prized by many fellow anglers. His annual fishing trips to Lake Erie were among the highlight of every year. When it came to hunting season Dale was always the first one up at hunting camp (the trailer) where many big buck stories with the Handschke family were made. Dale also took many trips to Utah mule deer hunting; Mount Peale will never forget him.

If you knew Dale, you knew how much he loved ice cream, blueberry torte, and Werther’s candies, which he happily shared. It was a simple gesture that became one of the many ways he made people smile. Dale was a great man with a huge heart, big smile, contagious sense of humor and that unforgettable laugh that could brighten any room. He would help anyone who needed it and his kindness touched the lives of many.

Dale had a strong faith. He belonged to Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London. He really enjoyed bible class at “Marley’s” his favorite restaurant.

Dale is survived by his two sons, Jeff (Julie) Roberts and David (Becki) Roberts; grandchildren, Eric Roberts, Fara (Lucas) Hartjes, and Christy (special friend Braeden) Roberts; great grandchildren, Elliana, Gracelyn, Jameson, Ezekiel, and Malachi; brother-in-law, Jack (Cheryl Beyer) Hoag; sister-in-law, Bonnie Schindler; and the Rod Schutt family, who he considered his own.

Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Patty; his parents, Earl and June; his mother-in-law, and father-in-law; brother-in-law, and sister-in-law.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Sandy and Terry Magolski, who helped him so much and to the caregivers at the V.A. in King, who took such good care of him his last two months.

The Funeral Service for Dale will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London, Wisconsin. Visitation will be from 9:00 am. until the time of service.
