Daniel “Dan” Haney, of Howard, Wisconsin, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2026 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay.

Dan, age 82, was born in New London, Wisconsin on February 25, 1944 to the late Abner and Mae (Uelmen) Haney. After graduating high school, Dan earned his undergraduate and master’s degrees from UW Oshkosh. He taught at Lombardi Middle School for the vast majority of his career, and he was passionate about geneology to the point of it being almost a second career. Dan met the love of his life, Michael Diestler, in 1967. They married in 2014 and spent a total of 59 loving years together.

Dan loved to travel and enjoyed trips with Mike to China, The Soviet Union, Europe, Australia, Canada, and Mexico. He also enjoyed annual trips to Arizona and to Salt Lake City to use the Family History Library. Dan was a kind-hearted man who fiercely loved his family and friends.

Dan is survived by his husband, Michael “Mike” Diestler; his sister, Joyce Levenhagen; his nephew, Troy (Chelsey) Levenhagen; his niece, Lynn (Adam) Swoverland; great nephew, Joey Levenhagen; great step-nieces, Violet and Eloise, as well as numerous other family members and good friends.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Abner and Mae Haney; his brother, James “Jim” Haney; brother-in-law, Bill Levenhagen; sister-in-law, Nancy Fierek; and Mike’s parents, Amos and Edna Diestler.

The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 20th at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home, 209 W. Cook Street in New London WI. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
