Dean Jeffrey Bartel, 78, of New London, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026.

Dean was born on July 20, 1947, to the late Orville and late Lucille (Schwirtz) Bartel. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during his service in Korea. Following his military service, Dean dedicated 39 years of hard work and commitment to AT&T, where he built a long and respected career.

Dean lived a life centered around family, quiet strength, loyalty, and the values he carried throughout his years. He had a lifelong passion for old cars and faithfully attended the Iola Car Show every year. He also loved airplanes and aviation, even building his own airplane, a project that reflected his skill, patience, and determination. Dean looked forward each year to attending EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, where he enjoyed sharing his love of aviation with family and friends.

Dean is survived by the mother of his children, Bonnie Bartel; his son, Jon Bartel; daughter, Sarah Bartel; grandchildren Brady Bartel, Chelsea (Bartel) Herzfeldt, Dillon Bartel, Sawyer Bartel, Chloe Jandrt, and Teagan Bartel; and great-grandchild, E’mari Bostic. His stepmother Edna Bartel and his siblings: Virgina Murray, Patti Roberts, Keith Bartel, Kevin Bartel and Renee Hensel.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Larry Bartel; and sister-in-law, Beverly Bartel.

Dean’s family will forever cherish the time they shared with him and the lasting impact he made in their lives.
