Denis Vandenberg's Memorial Service

Denis Thomas Vandenberg, son of the late Aloys Jerome Vandenberg and Lucille Wilhelmina VanGompel, was born September 2nd, 1954 at Kaukauna Community Hospital. He was a student and alter boy at St. John's Nepomucene Catholic Community. He attended public high school in Little Chute, Wisconsin. He started working at a young age as a Post-Crescent paper boy. He grew his paper route and he hired his brother Karl and another young man to work it with him. He worked many warehouse manager positions throughout his life including LaBesco, Downers, Jansport, Allis Chalmers, and Neff Engineering. Always caring for and recruiting friends and family to work with him.

He retired from his role as store manager of the Green Bay Parker Store in December of 2019 from Kundinger Fluid Power.

Denis had a love of music which started with piano lessons that he received from his older sister Joan Handgartner, and later John Harmon. Denis was 16 when he started playing in his first band and relied on his mom to drive him back and forth from practices and gigs. He played in many bands throughout his life, too many to list. At one point he played with 11 different bands in one year. He never said no for the opportunity to play.

Above all, Denis would say his greatest accomplishments were as son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. Denis met the love of his life, Sheryl Vandenberg, in 1988. Their first date he took Sheryl and Nichol to see the Easter Bunny. They married September 7th, 1991. They were married for 31 years. In his later years, he loved traveling around the country with Sheryl and spending time with his daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren.

Denis was humble, loyal, dedicated, and dependable. He wasn't an eloquent man but instead generous with his time and often his wallet.

He was preceded in death by his father Aloys, his mother Lucille, his brother Mark Vandenberg, his sisters Mary Ann and Joan Vandenberg. His life, music, and words of wisdom will be cherished in the hearts of his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Sheryl; his daughter Nichol (Ryan) Kellenberger and his five grandchildren Henley, Della, Windsor, Idaho, and Beynola; his mother-in-law, Jean Rew; his sister Joan (Al) Handgartner; brother Karl (Mary) Vandenberg; brother-in-law Lonny (Jennifer) Rew, along with nieces and nephews Karen (Dave) Weber, Scott and Greg Staley, Luke (Samantha) Vandenberg, Adam Vandenberg, Danielle Vandenberg, Krista, Samantha and Jacob Rew.

The Memorial Service for Denis will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London.  The visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
