Donald Fisher Funeral Service Video
Donald George Fisher, born December 8, 1941, in Ripon, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2023 at The Marquardt in Watertown, Wisconsin. He was 81 years old.
Don was raised in Baraboo, Wisconsin and joined the US Navy upon high school graduation. He was a career Navy man and proudly served for 20 years, retiring as Master Chief Petty Officer (E-9). He was initiated on the USS Guadalcanal, specialized in electronics communications, and traveled extensively with his service.
On May 23, 1961 Don married the love of his life, Sherry O'Neil. Together they had two daughters and celebrated 55 years of marriage until Sherry's passing in 2017.
After retirement from the Navy, Don's family lived in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and Don taught electronics communications at the College of Lake County in Grayslake, Illinois. He and Sherry then moved to Manawa, Wisconsin where Don worked at Outboard Motor Company, and later repaired copy machines for Modern Business Machines. One of Don's great accomplishments was earning a business degree from Southern Illinois University in 2007.
Don enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he was a dedicated Packers fan. He also loved traveling with Sherry and walking his dog Buttons. He was a strategic euchre player and made the best brandy old-fashioneds. Don was a kind, honest, and loyal husband, dad, and grandpa, with an adorable smile and a twinkle in his eye. Wherever Don went, he made friends easily and was remembered for his friendly personality. He will be dearly missed, but he is now in the loving arms of his wife, Sherry.
Don is survived by his daughters Debby (Todd) Fischer of Watertown, Wisconsin and Dawn (Curt) Stapert of Noblesville, Indiana; his grandchildren Callahan (Erica), Molly, Joseph, Anneliese and Geoffrey; his great grandchildren Sariah and Kylo; and his sister Joyce Alt.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Merton and Esther (Koerth) Fisher, his brother John Fisher, and his wife Sherry Fisher.
A viewing will be held on June 29 from 9:00 -11:00 am at First Congregational United Church of Christ, New London, with the service at 11:00 am with Rev. Dembinski officiating. Burial will be at Floral Hill Cemetery, New London.
