Douglas Lee Rindt, of the Town of Larrabee, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at Appleton Medical Center, following a massive heart attack. He was surrounded by his family as God took him home.
Doug was born on February 6, 1947 in Clintonville. He graduated from Clintonville High School with the Class of 1965. Doug served two years in the United States Army, most of which he spent in Baumholder, Germany. During his time there, he became known for his quick wit and unforgettable stories. After returning to Clintonville, Doug began his career at Metco and Marion Plywood.
On Halloween evening in 1969, Doug met his future wife, Sherry Ann Breiting. They married on July 4, 1970, and shared 55 years filled with love, affection, and playful mischief. In the spring of 1976, they purchased the Old Buckbee School House and embraced a simple life together. Doug found joy in gardening and tending to countless flowers, while Sherry showcased her talent in canning and crafting outdoor décor. Their home was a paradise they created and cherished.
Doug was a devoted husband who always said "Goodbye" and "I Love You" to Sherry. He helped carry items into the house, assisted with chores, and made sure she got to her appointments. Wednesday evenings were reserved for spending time with his brother, Larry at Meyer's Supper Club in Clintonville, and he rarely missed a Sunday afternoon with his sons at Bun's Fireside.
Known for wearing a cap the reads "A Grumpy Old Bastard", Doug's friends and family knew his heart was gentle. He often helped others and rescued numerous cats, feeding and caring for them daily. His two favorites, with names befitting Doug's sense of humor, were reserved for mature audiences. Doug also had a deep affection for dogs and was called "The Dog Whisperer".
Doug is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sherry and four sons: Tyrone J. (Sarah) Rindt, Heath Douglas (Michele) Rindt, Chadwick Brian Rindt (Lori Sather), and Ryan Breiting Rindt (Stacy Moenke).
Doug is also survived by his siblings: Daniel Rindt, Joyce (James) Wickman, Ronald Rindt, Larry Rindt, Randy (Tina) Rindt, Mark (Mary) Rindt, Gene (Donna) Rindt, Nancy (Robert) Ebelt, Gloria (Jerry) Behnke, and Mary (George) Johanek. His grandchildren include Christian (Katie) Tischer, Autumn Tischer, Amber Tischer, Harley Rindt, Loretta Dick, Forrest Tourtillott, Kayla Nantelle, Scarlet Villiard, and Morgan Jo Rindt. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.
Doug was preceded in death by his grandparents, Emil (Agusta Tews) Rindt and Herman (Emma Schultz) Nienke; his parents, Arthur (Mildred Nienke) Rindt; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lowell and Elaine Breiting and brothers-in-law, Kirk and Kim Breiting.
The Funeral Service for Doug will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London. Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Family friend Jeff Pockat will deliver the eulogy. The procession to New Maple Creek Cemetery is scheduled for approximately 3:00 p.m.
Military honors will be conducted following the service by Post 664, and American Legion Post #63, and American Legion Auxiliary Unit #63, all of Clintonville.
A Celebration of Life will follow at Bun's Fireside in Clintonville from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
