Obituary

A Celebration of Life will be held for Ed on Sunday, May 19, 2024 at the American Legion 3220 W. College Ave. Appleton from 1:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Edward Jungwirth, age 81, of Appleton, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 18, 2024. Ed was born in Appleton on August 2, 1942 to the late John and Olga (Hoffman) Jungwirth. He grew up in Greenville and attended Hortonville schools. He married Bonnie Otis at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London on January 18, 1964.

Ed was a man of every season. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all he loved competitive sports. He was able to track three games on separate TV's at the same time. He loved playing and encouraged his son Scott, always catching his bullet-like pitches. One of Ed's final wishes was to be able to play baseball again. Ed loved attending his kids and grandchildren's sporting events. He and Bonnie often suffered from "bleacher-butt".

In his younger years, Ed and his brother would race cars – ON FOOT! Ed was proud of his speed. He could beat a car in 100 feet. Ed was also considered a "wicked polka dancer". He was hard to keep up with! Nearly everything ended up an adventure with Ed. From falling out of a boat while launching, to the big buck that got away (Ed was sleeping!). Ed was on the water or in the woods until his health would no longer allow.

Ed loved gardening. He and Bonnie canned and preserved much of what they harvested. Door County Cherry picking was another of his annual favorites. Ed was a quiet and hard working man, with a solid gold heart. Immensely compassionate, he would literally give the shirt off his back. Patience was another of Ed's virtues. He demonstrated that by the hours spent on jigsaw puzzles. Ed was a devoted father and husband. He kept true to his wedding vows – passing away in Bonnie's arms 60 years, to the minute, from their wedding ceremony.

Ed is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie; his children, Brenda (Greg) Roblee, and Scott Jungwirth; grandchildren, Michael (Amanda Stiebs) Roblee, and Anne (Josh) Luedke; fur babies, Chloe and Sophie. He is further survived by his brother, Larry (Sandra) Jungwirth; sister in-law, Yvonne Jungwirth; brothers in-law, Chuck (Becky) Otis, Ken Reinert, and Bob Lubinski; as well as cousins, nephews, nieces and many friends.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Hazel and Del Otis; siblings, John (Helen) Jungwirth, William Jungwirth, George (Karen) Jungwirth, infant brother, Robert; sisters in-law, Kathi Lubinski, and Faye Reinert.

A Private Family Service will be held with a Celebration of Life to be announced this summer.

The Jungwirth family wishes to express gratitude to Compassus Hospice. Additionally, a special thank you to Pastor Phillip Geiger and our wonderful friends and neighbors for all their love and support.

To honor a life well lived raise a toast of blackberry brandy in Ed's memory.
