Eugene Anthony Lautenschlager "Banana", age 84 of Hortonville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at St. Joseph Residence in New London, with his family by his side. Gene was born on August 7, 1940 in Hortonville, the son of the late Edgar Lautenschlager and Florence (Casey) Gabriel (Herbert Gabriel). He was united in marriage to Virginia Lehman on June 6, 1959 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bear Creek. Over the years Gene and Virg owned Hamples Corners Tavern and Banana's Never In Tavern, where they made lifelong friends and had many adventures and fun times. Gene was also a top salesman at Mike Murphy Ford in Hortonville for many years. Gene and Virg enjoyed riding their motorcycle and they put many miles on together with dear friends and family. He enjoyed old cars, camping, playing cards, fishing, country music and a good Old Fashioned by the campfire. Gene attended the Hodag Country Music Festival for many years.
Eugene is survived by his children, Jay Lautenschlager, Carrie (Doug) Stueck. Tim (Lisa) Lautenschlager, Al (Lindsey) Lautenschlager and Jen (Tim) Dilge; grandchildren, Ryan Lautenschlager, Autumn Lautenschlager, Jason (Tara) Moder, Justin (Nicole) Moder, Ashley Moder, Kelly (Adam) Vlasaty, Kayla (Evan) Nelson, Garth (girlfriend, Alexa) Lautenschlager and Jack Rathsack (fiancé, Margaret) and great-grandchildren, Bryce, Brett, Whitley, Avery (fiancé, Brady), Jonathan, Hailey, Freya, Levi, Lena and Archie. He is further survived by his sisters, Margaret Parker and Anna (Gary) Krueger, many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
In addition to his parents and loving wife, Virg, Eugene was preceded in death by his son, Gene Joseph and in-laws.
The Memorial Service for Gene will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London. The visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful nursing staff at St. Joseph Residence and Bristol Hospice.
Dad ~ Your laughter and wit brought joy to those around you. Your mind and body grew tired ~ rest easy now. We will cherish our memories until we meet again…..we love you!
