With faith in the Resurrection of Jesus, we offer our prayers for Reverend Justin N. Werner who entered eternal life on February 10, 2023, at the age of 93. Father Werner was born on April 12, 1929, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, to George and Adelaide (Mayer) Werner. He attended Lincoln High School, Kenosha, and St. Catherine High School, Racine, and junior college at St. Norbert, De Pere. He then went to St. Francis Seminary where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy and Theology. Bishop Stanislaus V. Bona ordained him on May 31, 1958, at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Green Bay. Father Werner's first priestly appointment was as Associate Pastor of St. Augustine Parish, Wausaukee. After three months he was appointed Associate Pastor of St. Matthew Parish, Green Bay for one year. He was then appointed as Associate Pastor of St. Margaret Mary Parish, Neenah for six years. In 1965 he was named as Associate Pastor of Holy Cross Parish, Kaukauna for two years. He was then named Temporary Administrator of St. James Parish, White Lake, with mission at Langlade, for one year. He was then appointed as Associate Pastor of St. Agnes Parish, Green Bay for one year. In 1968 he taught at St. Francis Xavier High School, Appleton for one year. Fr. Werner was then named Pastor at Sacred Heart Parish, Spruce from 1969 to 1970. And in 1970 he was appointed Pastor of St. Mary Parish, Algoma where he served for one year. In 1971 he was named Pastor of St. Edward Parish, Mackville, where he served for eight years. Then in 1979 he was named Pastor of St. John Parish, Gillett where he served nine years. From 1984 to 1988 he was appointed as Pastor of St. Martin of Tours Parish, Cecil while continuing as Pastor of St. John Parish, Gillett. And in 1988 he was appointed Pastor of St. Mary Parish, Greenville where he served for eleven years. In 1993, he also was appointed as Temporary Administrator of SS Peter and Paul Parish, Hortonville, while continuing as Pastor of St. Mary Parish, Greenville until he received senior priest status in 1999. Fr. Werner also was a Chaplain with local chapters of the Knights of Columbus. There will be visitation for Fr. Werner on Saturday, February 18, from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at St. Bernard Parish, 1617 W. Pine St, Appleton, WI 54914. The Funeral Liturgy, expressing our faith and our hope in the promised glory of the Lord's Resurrection, will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Most Rev. David Ricken as Celebrant. Most Rev. Daniel Felton will be the homilist.
