Fred Huebner's Memorial Service Video
Fred Harold Huebner, age 94, of Hortonville, WI, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 9, 2023. Fred was born on January 21, 1929, in Hortonville, WI, to the late Fred and Margaret (Missling) Huebner. He married Carol Gruetzmacher on July 10, 1954 at St. John's Lutheran Church in the Town of Caledonia.
Fred was a long-time member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and served as church president and school board member, in addition to working on various committees and projects with the church and school. Fred was a United States Army Veteran and a welder, but his most beloved career was working in the canvas industry, eventually becoming owner of the Appleton Awning Shop. He served as president of the Upper Midwest Canvas Association and received many awards, including Master Craftsman. After his retirement in 1991, he continued to work alongside his daughter in the canvas industry for many years.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed farming, especially his Shetland ponies, and giving his family and anyone who visited a ride on his hand-crafted pony cart. Fred also enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and bowling. Together, Fred and Carol traveled the world along with their family and friends. Some of his most treasured memories were spent at their cottage on Big Lake and attending grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities.
Fred is survived by his wife, Carol of 68 years, his daughters, Vickie (Randy) Bellile and Cheryl Romenesko; grandchildren, Ben (Tanya) Romenesko, Danielle (Tanner) Buchman, Brian Bellile and Nathan (Alissa) Bellile; great-grandchildren, Brayden and Kaleb Romenesko, Avari and Easton Buchman; sisters, Elleanor Zimmer and Dorothy McVey, and his brother, Robert (Arlene) Huebner. He is further survived by sisters in-law, Mary Huebner, Laverne Sommer, Ruth Pankow, Dolores Westphal and Sandra Quandt; brothers in-law, Daniel (Sue) Gruetzmacher and David Gruetzmacher and many nieces and nephews.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Margaret Huebner; mother and father in-law, Rufus and Almeda Gruetzmacher; brothers, Harold Huebner and Donald Huebner; sisters, Alice (Bill) Kuehnel and Marcella (Ervin) Grosnick; brothers in-law, Donald Zimmer, Jim McVey, Eldor (Mary) Gruetzmacher, Art Sommer, Harold Gruetzmacher, Aaron Pankow, Paul Westphal and Lester Quandt.
