Gail's Funeral Service Video

Gail Marie Smith passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, October 27, 2024. Gail was born in New London, the younger of two girls, to Martin and Selma (Wangelin) Wing. She attended New London schools and graduated from Washington High School with the class of 1958. Shortly after graduation, Gail moved to Milwaukee and attended beautician school. There she met her husband Darrell Smith, marrying him on July 1, 1961 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London. Gail worked as a hairdresser for 22 years in the Milwaukee area. A career change brought her to the banking industry. She worked more than 20 years in banking, starting when punch cards were fed into a tabulating machine, then helping to usher in a fully computerized operation.

In Gail's life she lived in Milwaukee, Hubertus, Hartford, and finally, in Little Chute and Kimberly. Gail loved travelling. She and Darrell made time to see the sights and experience many places. They especially enjoyed spending time at their Green Lake cottage. Sadly, in 2004, Darrell passed away. In her later years, she traveled with her sons and their families, spending many hours in the van! Gail was also a devoted Packers and Brewers fan, as well as an avid reader.

When Gail moved back to the area, she was able to reconnect with many old friends from her high school days. She treasured these friends and every moment she spent with them.

Family was everything to Gail. She happily supported her grandchildren and she would attend everything they were involved in. Her children and grandchildren were a great source of happiness and pride to her.

Gail is survived by her sons, Martin Smith, Daryl (Shanon) Smith, Joel (Rebecca) Smith; grandchildren, Benjamin (Beth) Prescher, Casey Prescher, Ashley (Brad) Hansen, Lauren (fiancé, Boyd) Smith, Hannah Smith, Brooke Smith, Abby Smith, Erin Smith; great grandchildren, Ember, Sawyer, Lydia, Benjamin, Briella, Brooke, Arabella, Ava; her sister, Gloria (William) Altenberger; in-laws, Jim (Darlene) Patritto, Denny (Carolyn) Smith, David (Shirley) Smith; along with nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Gail was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Selma; her husband Darrell of 43 years; father and mother-in-law, Ernie and Irene Smith.

The Memorial Service for Gail will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London. The Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
