Garnett "Joe" Lewis Woods Jr., age 80 of Fremont, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at his home with family by his side. Joe was born on February 14, 1943 in Crystal, West Virginia to the late Garnett L. and Maggie (O'Donnell) Woods. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Linda on August 14, 1965 in Chicago. They moved to Fremont in 1965, where they raised 3 children. Joe was blessed with 2 granddaughters and 1 great-granddaughter, which were the light of his life. Joe served his country in the US Army as a tank driver and spent his time in Germany at the beginning of the Vietnam War. He was a proud member of the Fremont American Legion. Joe's hobbies included fishing and woodworking. The walleye run would never come soon enough for Joe! In his younger years, Joe was a tournament bass fisherman and in his retirement years he enjoyed fishing for crappie and bluegill on the Wolf River. Joe worked at the Neenah Foundry for 40 years.
Joe is survived by his wife, Linda Jean; children, Louis (Becky) Woods, Theresa (Marc) Gurgel and Roxann (Gary) Austin; grandchildren, Nicole (Colin Laska) and Jessica Woods; great-grandchildren, Colette Laska and his siblings, Roger Woods and Leslie Woods.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Marie Woods, Barbara Houck, Charles "Mike" Woods and Sharon "Kay" Niemuth.
The family wishes to thank ThedaCare At Home Hospice for their care and support as well as Andrew and Junior for making his wish come true to go walleye fishing 1 more time, along with all of the friends for stopping by.
A private family ceremony will be held.
