Gary L. Peterson, age 83, of Hortonville, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Sunday, May 3, 2026.
Gary was born on March 7, 1943 in Clintonville, Wisconsin to the late Harry and Meta (Lichtenburg) Peterson. He married Kathy Phillips “Myrtle” on April 7, 1967 and the marriage was blessed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Greenville, Wisconsin on August 9, 1975.
Gary worked on the family farm until he graduated High School. His hard dedication and work ethic continued in construction. Gary was a proud member of LIUNA Local 330 for 60 years. He was blessed to be able to have worked with three of his children. After his construction career, Gary spent time working at Simmons Juvenile Products. He enjoyed deer hunting and keeping his garden in immaculate condition, which he took great pride. In addition, Gary had a hobby in woodworking, making clocks and birds, playing cards, especially 31. Gary had great joy in winning the pot in the final game he played. Gary was a great joke teller and was known to tell a joke wherever he went. He was a true amateur comedian and whether he was funny or not, people would laugh. Above all else, Gary enjoyed time with his family.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Kathy, celebrating 59 blessed years of marriage in April; their children, Susan (Gene) Pahl, John (Sheri) Peterson, Charlotte (Roy) Beyer, Brad (Stacy) Peterson; grandchildren, Taylor (Ashley), Tanner (Micheala), Madysen (McClain), Zachary, Courtney (Kurt), Jessalyn (Aaron), Mackenzie (Quinten), Megan (Isaiah), Travis, Bradley, Brent (Emma); great grandchildren, Iyona, Owen, Brooks, Brynnley, Miley, Ayla; brothers and sisters in law, Karla, Kay, Kristine (Kent), Kevin (Crissy), Kim (Tammy). Gary is also survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Meta; siblings, Virginia (Ed) Splitt, Leon Peterson, Reuben Peterson, Elaine (Toivo) Lahti, Ramona (Orville) Splitt, Marvin (Joyce) Peterson, Janice (Jerry) Schroeder; mother and father-in-law, Glenn and Leona Phillips; brothers and sisters in law, James Wilson, Karmella (Dave) Sanderfoot, Kenny Phillips, Karen (Norbert) Thebo, Bob Burns; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Heiks and his staff, Thedacare at Home Hospice, and his Granddaughter Mady.
The Funeral Service for Gary will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London, Wisconsin, with Rev. Kevin Dembinski officiating. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in St Mary’s Cemetery in Bear Creek.
