Gerald Roman Diermeier, age 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at St. Joseph Residence in New London. Gerald was born on March 13, 1931 in the Township of Bovina, on the family farm, to the late Frank J. and Marguerite (Uelmen) Diermeier. He attended country school, where he majored in "sheephead". Gerald graduated from Shiocton High School, with the class of 1949. On June 30, 1951, Gerald married Audrey Ann Keesler at St. Denis Catholic Church in Shiocton. Only six months later, Gerald was drafted into the US Army-serving in the Korean War. Gerald and Audrey farmed 44 years and grew a family of six children. Gerald was very talented. Aside from being a good farmer, he was very mechanical, and could fix nearly anything. He was also very musical. Gerald played both trumpet, trombone and keyboard and performed with "The Merrymakers" and other bands for 55 years. Upon retirement, Gerald and Audrey moved to Silver Cliff, in Marinette County. Gerald was afforded time to be more creative and artful. In retirement, he worked with stained glass, making many beautiful creations. Gerald and Audrey also enjoyed snowmobiling and of course sheephead and cribbage.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Audrey; children, Jim (Cathy) Diermeier, Jack (Tracy) Diermeier, Kathy (Ken) Van Camp, Gene (Lynn) Diermeier, Sal (Ron) Korth and Cindy (Brian) Plaman; twenty grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Carmen Merkes; sister-in-law, Judy Keesler and brother-in-law, Pat Keesler. He is further survived by nieces, nephews and many friends.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Donna Diermeier; brothers, Donald and Dennis Diermeier; brother-in-law, Norb Merkes and brother and sister-in-law, Buzz and Gen Keesler.
The Funeral Mass for Gerald will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at St. Denis Catholic Church in Shiocton, with Fr. John Kleinschmidt officiating. The visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in St. Denis Cemetery, Town of Bovina.
