Obituary

Age 76 of New London, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, March 13, 2011, at Rennes Health Center in Appleton. Gib was born in New London, WI, on March 30, 1934, the son of Raymond Walter and Lula (Prochnow) Oberstadt . He graduated from New London High School in 1952. On June 8, 1957, he was united in marriage to Jeanette A. Carew in Appleton, Wisconsin. Gilbert farmed in the Readfield area his entire life, staying active on the farm until the age of 70. He volunteered for 25 years as a fireman for the Clayton-Winchester Fire Department, and was an active 4H Leader and FFA member and alumni. He enjoyed working with wood, making maple syrup, cutting trees, and watching his grandchildren's activities. (sports, 4H, County Fair) Gib is survived by his six sons: Gregory (Jayne), Menasha; Russell (Marcia), New London; Glen (Dawn), Larsen; Jerry (Lynn), New London; Allen (Jo Ell), Fremont; Robert (Suzy) Edgerton, a daughter Rita Stibb (special friend, Jamie Flease), New London; sisters, Mary (Milton) Spoehr, Berlin; Viona Heuer, New London; and Patricia (Lester) Johnson, Menominee; sister-in-law, Rosalyn Oberstadt, New London. He is further survived by 21 grandchildren: Scott (Jenessa), Avery (Megan), Brian (Heidi), Kyle (fiancé Heather), Kayla, Rachel, Elizabeth, Miles, Spencer, Luke, Grant, Denise (Jake) Meier, Eric and Sean Oberstadt, and Brandon Stibb; Shane Fischer, Heidi Harding, Ken (Peo) Smith, Heather (Peter) DeShaney, Brandon (Katie) and Amber Nelson; great grandchildren Ian and Reid Oberstadt, Noah Nelson, Adam Meier, Samantha Huot, Morgan and Kendra DeShaney, Kaylee, Ashlen, and Kyle Fischer, Sawyer and Chesnee Meyer, and Jon and Colton Harding. He is further survived by brother-in-law, Daniel (Ruth) Carew, Appleton and Glenn Moore; sister-in-laws, Jane (Clifford) Grable, Crystal Lake, IL; Charlotte Himmler, Tomahawk; Alice Schoening, Appleton; Marie (Paul) Gehrke, Manawa; Nancy (Carl) Tiesling; Colleen (Arlyn) Dusso, Frankfort, KY; Maxine Carew, New London; and Linda Carew, Little Chute. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeanette; brother, Raymond; brother-in-law Dallas Heuer; and son-in-law, Bob Stibb and uncle, Harvey Prochnow. A funeral service for Gib will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, E9016 Marsh Rd, Fremont, WI, with Pastor Doug Reinders officiating. Family and friends may call at Cline-Hanson Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and again directly at church from 9:30 until the time of service Wednesday morning. Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery, New London. A memorial fund has been established.
