Obituary

Glen Gilbert Wendel, age 77 of the Township of Dale, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2025 on the four-generation farm, where he spent his life. Glen was born on September 5, 1948 in Hortonville, the only child to the late Gilbert and Doris (Jacquot) Wendel.

Glen farmed the land his great-grandfather, Charles Wendel, first cleared in 1861.  Aside from farming, Glen worked at Schneider Feed Mill in Hortonville, for many years until the mill closed.  Then Glen worked until his retirement at the Greenville Co-Op.  He had a deep love for his parents.  The family farm was everything to him.  Glen was a humble servant and steward of the land.  He tended his livestock with great pride.  As a boy, Glen learned how to grow and produce crops for market, often selling pumpkins and squash.  In his teens, He was very active in FFA.  Glen was shy, kind and caring.  Despite his shyness, once he got to know you, he was likely to talk your ear off!  Glen was always eager to help anyone in need.  There was a time when he was a top-notch welder and improviser.  He was a devout International Harvester man, never considering any other color but red!  He loved farming history and old tractors.  Glen was a lover of old ways, and was perfectly content to be trapped in the past. He was a "meat and potatoes" guy, who looked forward to a good 'ol home cooked meal, but would never turn down KFC, sweets and a soda.  Throughout the years, Glen had many neighbors and friends who would help him farm, until the end of his life.  Many times they would assist in corralling adventurous livestock…..or dogs!  He was a devout Christian and was a true believer.  Glen was a very proud Godfather to his cousin. He was a lover of German Shepherds.  They weren't all friendly ones, but he loved them just the same, often sharing his meals with them.

Glen was an only child and had only a few living relatives.  It was very important to keep his family farm in farming.  So the farm will stay in his family and in farming.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents; aunts; uncles, as well as many friends over the years.

A private service and burial will take place.
