Guy Kluge's Funeral Service Video
Guy R. Kluge, age 79, was born to eternal life on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at Aurora Medical Center. Guy was born on March 4, 1943, the son of the late Reno and Betty (Berzill) Kluge. Reno was in Italy, during WWII when Guy was born.
Guys' final 18 months were spent in hospitals and nursing homes. Eventually, the time came when Guy could fight no more. Jesus took his pain when Guy peacefully passed away. It was a blessing for him, as well as us.
He grew up in Hortonville, attending Bethlehem Lutheran School. Unknown to Guy, at the time, he attended 1 st through 8 th grade with his future brothers-in-law. Guy went on to graduate from Hortonville High School, where he excelled in sports. Guy held a variety of jobs while in high school, from a pin setter for the bowling alley to being an able farm hand.
Once out of high school Guy entered the full-time workforce as a mason tender, then to Badger Northland and Fox River Tool as a machinist.
Guy's first marriage was to Judy Fairchild. They had two children Thad Kluge and the late Kelly Degroot.
Guy started bar-tending at McHugh's Tap, and eventually took a cooking position at McHugh's Chandelier. Guy met Cheryl Conrad on a blind date, arranged by friends of both. Everything bloomed from then on. On Valentines Day of 1977, Guy asked Cheryl for her hand in marriage and they were married on June 16, of that same year at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hortonville. The friends who arranged their first date were part of the wedding party.
With help from both of their parents, Guy and Cheryl bought McHugh's Chandelier and renamed it Guy & Cheryl's Chandelier. Guy held two jobs, working at the restaurant, as well as the nail factory in Hortonville, during the time Cheryl battled cancer. In 1988, many circumstances forced the closing of the Chandelier.
On the advice of a good friend, Guy took a machinist position at Kingsbury Bearing Co., in Oshkosh. Guy loved his job there, having many good memories. He happily worked till he was nearly 64 years old.
Through the trials of the last few years, our friends have truly been a shining bright light. Cheryl especially thanks, Kathy and Ed Stoeger, and their son Jake for help and support. They often visited Guy and made it possible for Cheryl to be with him when he passed away.
Thank you also to Debra Sweat for trips to doctor's appointments, the pharmacy, and grocery deliveries. Thank you to the Pastors Westra and Paustian for bringing the word of God and communion to Guy and Cheryl.
Guy is survived by his wife; his son, Thad (Dawn) Kluge; a sister, Bonnie (Larry) Tennie; nieces and nephews, Lori Tank, Christopher Tennie, Susan (Tyson) Miller and Mark Tennie; brother-in-law, Richard Conrad; grandson, Hunter Kluge; great-nephews and nieces, T.J. Kloehn, Tyler Tank, Jacob Tennie, Emma Tennie and Shayla Miller; his aunt, Lois Calmes and many other relatives and friends.
The guy was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kelly (Richard) Degroot; sister, Barb Kluge; mother and father-in-law, Elvin and Anna Mae Conrad and brothers-in-law, Jim and Dave Conrad as well as aunts, uncle, and many friends.
Funeral services for Guy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Hortonville with Rev. Tristan Paustian officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the Symco Union Cemetery.
