Obituary

With deep love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the passing of Jane Alice (Ruhsam) Johnson who entered peacefully into eternal rest on May 26, 2026, at the age of 89 in Walker, Michigan. A devoted Catholic woman of unwavering faith, Jane lived her life guided by compassion, grace, and service to others. Her faith was the foundation of everything she did, and she found great joy in prayer, attending Mass, and sharing God’s love through acts of kindness and generosity.

Born May 24, 1937, in New London, Wisconsin, Jane was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished friend. She shared a remarkable marriage with her beloved husband, Richard, whose companionship brought her endless happiness. Together, they traveled many nations throughout world, embracing new cultures, forming lasting friendships, and creating treasured memories. Whether walking through the markets of Austria, admiring the beauty of the Holy Land, holding Koala bears in Australia, kissing the Blarney Stone in Ireland, or just enjoying quiet moments together, their adventures reflected a life filled with curiosity, gratitude, and a love for life and for each other.

Despite her travels, her greatest joy was always returning home to her family. And it goes without saying that she was most proud of sharing her love by feeding others. Whether it was in the home, church, or cookies and sweets for the neighborhood kids, she always had something to share with love and a smile. She was known for her warm smile, gentle spirit, and the comforting presence she brought to everyone around her. Her home in Appleton for over 50 years was a place of welcome, laughter, prayer, and unconditional love. Later, in December 2022, Dick and Jane moved to Michigan to be closer to family where she continued on with her passions.

Jane is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Richard (Dick),her children, Lisa Reif (Rob) and Brian (Shari), her grandson “Butch” (Brian), her great-granddog dog Sniffy, and many extended family members and dear friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. She was preceded in death by her parents (Elizabeth and Gerhardt Ruhsam), and her sister (Mary Ruhsam) who were life-long residents of New London.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Most Precious Catholic Church on Thursday, June 04, 2026 at 11:00 am with Fr. Dave Hoffman officiating. Visitation will at the church from 9:00 am till time of service. Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of her beautiful life and enduring faith. Burial will be at Most Precious Blood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Harbor Humane Society (West Olive, MI) or the Most Precious Blood Catholic Church for a mass honoring her lifelong devotion to faith and service.
