Obituary

On Thursday, May 30, 2024, Jayla J. Sillas, of Hortonville, found her peace and earned her wings at the tender age of 16. Jayla was born on May 11, 2008, one of three children, to Antoine and Jamie (Griesbach) Sillas.

Jayla was authentic; her Gypsy soul was always up for an adventure. She was quick-witted and playful; spending time with her you were guaranteed a laugh. As long as you understood sarcasm and could see through her straight face, that is. Jayla had a beautiful heart and enjoyed making people feel special with her little gifts and thoughtful gestures. Jayla had a daring side when it came to food; whether it be something she put together at home or a new restaurant, she wasn't afraid to try anything. When it came to style, Jayla wasn't afraid of being herself. From hair and makeup to clothing, she embraced the ever changing fashion. Jayla loved nature and found interest in propagating various plants. She was an animal lover, especially her dogs; Olaf and Daisy; and her cat; Chou. They were good companions while she spent her days at home during her medical leaves. Over the last few years a number of different medical hurdles took a toll on Jayla. From adapting to new dietary needs to various testing and treatment plans, she always found a way to bounce back. Jayla was excited when she was able to return to in person learning this year. She stayed optimistic, but unfortunately in person was short lived following a recent head injury. During her time in person she maintained a group of close friends and found love; her boyfriend Noah. At times her health presented obstacles, however, her strong spirit allowed her to do the things she enjoyed. Her parents will forever be grateful for Noah and the support of her friends, which made her life enjoyable and kept pushing her forward.

Jayla wanted to help people in her life, and through being an organ donor, she was able to do that even in her absence.

Jayla will be greatly missed by her parents, Antoine and Jamie; siblings, Miles and Rozalyn; maternal grandparents, Jeff and Joan Griesbach; paternal grandparents, Sandra Banks and David Zollicoffer; and great Grandma, June Olk. She is further survived by many loving uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

Jayla was preceded in death by her grandfather, Travis Sillas, great grandma, Annie-May, great grandpa, Leroy and great grandma, Joyce, and great grandpa, Charlie

Jayla's family would like to thank the Greenville Fire Department and EMS, the Outagamie County Sheriffs Department, ThedaStar, and the staff in the ICU at ThedaCare in Neenah.

A Celebration of Life and Candlelight Vigil will take place on Friday July 12 at Hatten Park in New London from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
