Jerry Lee Winters, age 60, of Appleton, formerly of Hortonville, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2026.
Jerry was born on March 16, 1966, to Wayne and Elizabeth “Betty” Winters. He was also fortunate to be welcomed as part of the Jim and Phyllis Huss family, who held a special place in his life.
Jerry graduated from Hortonville High School in 1984. He had a lifelong love of basketball and football and especially enjoyed the memories and friendships from his high school days. Of the many jobs he held over the years, his two favorites were working with his Uncle Ken in woodworking and working as a greeter at Walmart. His friendly and familiar presence at Walmart made an impression on many, and he was often recognized throughout the Fox Cities simply as the “Walmart guy.”
More than 30 years ago, Jerry suffered an injury that forever changed the course of his life. Through all the challenges he faced, he never lost his smile or his positive attitude. Jerry had a remarkable ability to roll with the punches, take life as it came, and keep moving forward—something those who knew and loved him will always remember.
Jerry had a personality all his own and knew what he liked. He loved LOUD rock music, playing cribbage, going to Packer games, reminiscing about his high school days, and sharing memories of the many concerts he attended. He also had a special appreciation for Mexican food and sweets—and he loved his Mountain Dew. Jerry enjoyed being part of the St. Mary Catholic Church community in Appleton, where he served as an usher.
Jerry is survived by his two sisters, Jody Winters (Richard Holmgren) and Jean Lange (Tracey Lange); his niece, Madelyn Lange; and his nephews, Ian and Colin Lange. He is also survived by other relatives and friends who will remember him fondly.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Betty Winters; Ken and Gwen Plamann; Phyllis Huss; and other beloved family members.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to St. Mary Catholic Church (Appleton) Tornado Clean Up Fund in Jerry’s memory.
Arrangements are being handled by Borchardt & Moder Funeral Homes & Cremation Services in Hortonville. A Funeral Service, officiated by Fr. Phil Schoofs, will be held Monday, August 24 at 6:30 at the Borchardt & Moder Funeral Home, 109 W. Main St., Hortonville. Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home from 4:30 until the time of the service.
Jerry, thank you for being the best big bro we could have ever asked for. We will miss playing cribbage with you while listening to “The Rockin’ Apple” and all the little things that made you Jerry. We promise to keep looking out for “the other guy” whenever we’re driving. We love you and will carry you in our hearts always.
