John Romberg's Funeral Service Video
John Ellis Romberg, 79, passed away after a lengthy illness on Friday, February 4, 2022, with his family by his side.
John was born March 9, 1942, to Harvey and Edna (Priebe) Romberg of New London, WI. He was baptized and confirmed at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London. He graduated from Washington High School in New London, graduated from Ripon College with a double BA degree in Political Science and Economics, graduated with a master's degree in Business Administration from Indiana University. He enrolled in ROTC while at Ripon College and upon graduation from IU; was assigned to the United States Army Mobility Equipment Command, Secondary Items Division in St. Louis, MO. He met his future wife, Mary Ann Lesinski, while there and was discharged with the rank of Captain. They were married on May 2, 1970, at Immanual Lutheran Church, St. Louis, MO and moved to New London.
John worked for Bemis (Curwood) for 34 years before retiring in 2002. He spent more than 20 years serving the city of New London as Mayor (4 years) and Alderman. He served on the New London Family Medical Center Board as well as the Foundation Board.
He enjoyed his time at the cabin, hunting, fishing, or just wandering the woods. He was a member of the Twin Hunter's Club for most of his life.
In addition to his wife, Mary Ann, John is survived by his children; Margo Romberg (James Wickstrom), Karla (Leon) Olson and John Harvey (Kelly Nagorny). He has 4 grandchildren, Sawyer and Sophie Olson, Charli and Seth Romberg. His brother Paul, sisters-in-law Judy (Tony) Taschler, Jane (Bill) Schneider, brothers-in-law Joe (Martha) Lesinski and Dan (Cindy) Lesinski. He is further survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bruce Romberg.
Funeral service for John will be held at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mark Tiefel officiating. Visitation will be held at the church Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the Floral Hill Cemetery, New London.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John's name to the Emanuel Lutheran Church's Forward Project or the charity of your choice.
