BECAUSE OF WEATHER THIS FUNERAL IS BEING MOVED TO TUESDAY, DECEMBER 27, 2022. SAME DETAILS  9-10 FUNERAL AT 10 AM.

Joseph F. Gaigg, age 88, was discovered deceased on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at his residence in Hortonville.  Joseph was born on August 22, 1934 in Dixon, Missouri to the late Ludwig and Catherine (Kriescher) Gaigg.

He honorably served his country in the US Army for two years as an MP, and spent a large part of that time stationed in Korea.  He was selected to be an MP because of his strong athletic build.  Joe did weight training and body building in his early years and maintained a strong build throughout his life.

When he returned from the army he worked on the family farm.  He milked cows and farmed the land.  When his nieces and nephews from Chicago visited the farm, he let them experience his daily tasks, giving them a taste of the life of a farmer.  Driving the tractor with him is one of the many fond memories he gave to them.  He was fondly referred to as "Hunka Joe" which always brought a smile to his face.  He had a ready smile and laughed a lot!

He was a man of many talents.  He was adept at welding and liked to tinker and create things.  He once made an apple press to assist his sister Bette in making apple cider from their small apple orchard.

He also had musical talent, playing the guitar.  His oldest niece Patricia remembers him giving her a few lessons teaching her to play the song Lemon Tree, by Peter, Paul and Mary.

When his parents passed, he and his sister Bette stayed on the farmstead and continued to work the farm.  Eventually Joe sold the cows and tried his hand as a property manager.  In the interim, he also worked for the township of Hortonia at the waste disposal facility.

Joe is remembered by his surviving family, friends, and neighbors as a kind man with a generous heart.  He will be missed and remembered fondly.

Joseph is survived by his brother, Peter F.(Joann) Gaigg and sister, Cecelia V. Gaigg. He is also survived by nieces Patrica O'Neil, Diane (Marion) Ostrega, Sharon (Daniel) Peterson, Steven Tollios, Phillip (Cathy) Tollios, James (Howard Griels) Tollios, Pete (Judith) Tollios, Mark (Sue) Gaigg, Teresa (Judd) Brickler, Steven Gaigg, Gloria (Ben) Trantow, Alicia Gaigg, William (Nikole) Gaigg, great nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Marian "Mitzi" C. O'Neil, Frances (Pete) Tollios and Elizabeth Gaigg and brother, Bernard (Mary) Gaigg, and by his nephew Michael Gaigg, David Gaigg, and great-nephew Phillip Kreutzberg.

The Funeral Mass for Joseph will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Hortonville with Fr. Phil Schoof officiating.  The visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.  His great nephew Brian Ostrega, from Chicago, will be playing the violin at his service.
