Kevin P. Young, born on March 13, 1968 left us on August 9, 2019, doing what he loved most, cycling with the wind whipping in his face. He loved cycling and is the only person we know who owned more bikes than "Carter's got liver pills". He would often say how he was "one" with his bike and share how his rides through the Berkeley hills were his get away to sort and process through the complexity of his responsibilities obtained through the successes he achieved throughout life. Riding brought clarity for Kevin. Riding was Kevin's happy space . . . and he would also let you know, it gave him a killer set of legs!
He inspired so many people with his crazy athletic endeavors. If Kevin was one thing he was a goal setter; he was focused and held big goals such as the unimaginable challenge of completing an Ironman on every continent (that offers one); time fell short for the next goal of completing a marathon in Antarctica (which would have rounded out his crazy athletic endeavors on his final continent).
Kevin's adventurous spirit prompted him to explore just about every corner of this planet earth. It was hard to keep up with his travels, which lead him to the Great Barrier Reef to swim with Nemo and the sharks, riding horses in Patagonia where, as Kevin would say, he would "lope his pleasure horse", escaping craziness in the world by canoeing through the boundary waters, or driving 120MPH on the German autobahn. Kevin loved to drive fast and had the insurance rates to prove it! Kevin's adventures could fill a novel.
10's of millions of people were touched by the work Kevin did with Apple, Inc. He found his calling and did some pretty amazing stuff. He took charge and made things happen. Apple was never a job for Kevin; it was where he went to "intellectually" play. If you've ever been in an Apple retail store and talked to a Genius, you were touched by Kevin's work; it was he who architected the technical training for the Geniuses who help millions of people every year. If you've ever been to an Apple Authorized Service Center, then you were touched by Kevin's work as he helped them see how providing over-the-top service was not only the right thing to, but it also helped the small business owners become more successful. If you ever did a Google search on "how to" do something with an Apple product, you were touched by Kevin's work as well. After being told "Apple would never do social-media" it was Kevin who convinced the Apple Executive Team that helping customers in the 21 st century way was good for everyone. He launched the first Apple branded social accounts where millions of people are helped to this day. I guess you could say the above describe the "small dent" Kevin left in the world.
Family was everything to Kevin and he was always sure include time for family in the midst of his adventures and would many times bring them along with. He was a best friend to everyone in his family; and those who had the opportunity to know Kevin would likely consider him their best friend as well. After graduating from Clintonville High School in WI, he made his mark in Stevens Point, WI (UWSP); Temp, AZ (ASU); San Luis Obispo, CA (Cal Poly); Berkeley, CA (UC-Berkeley); Cupertino, CA (Apple, Inc.) and the places he called home San Francisco, CA and Kona, HI; he will be very sadly missed by the numerous friends he made along the way.
Kevin will be deeply missed by his parents Robert and Carol Young, Bear Creek, WI; his sisters Renee Young, Madison WI; Lisa (Jeremy) Schmoll, Bear Creek, WI; Amy (Bryan) Schultz, Suamico WI; his nieces and nephews who he treasured and who treasured him Sophia & Blake Schultz, Lilli & Lane Schmoll, Ronke Shokumbi; his life partner Wing Wong; many Aunts and Uncles, especially his "twin" uncle Roger Seefeld, along with numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his Paternal Grandparents Walter and Isabel Young and his Maternal Grandparents Clarence and Virginia Seefeld, 5 uncles 2 cousins, and a cousin in-law.
You all will be invited to a future celebration of life where we want you to bring your joyful stories to help us honor and celebrate his amazing life. Please watch for future social media communications in regards to this celebration.
