King G. Pharr Age 71 of New London, died Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at his home in the presence of his loving wife. King was born May 6, 1937 in Catherine, Alabama, son of the late Goodwin and Birdie Jo (Mason) Pharr.On September 5, 1959 he was united in marriage to Virginia Gibson in Fort Smith, Arkansas. King attended the University of Arkansas where he majored in Food Processing and Horticulture. He worked for 11 years with Allen Canning Company as Field Production Manager and for 30 years with Bush's Sauerkraut Factory in Shiocton until his retirement in 2002. King served on the New London Police and Fire Commission from 1976-2006. He served on the Board of Directors for New London Family Medical Center and was Past President of the Kraut Packers Association and the International Pickle Packers Association. King was a founding member of the Wolf River Sturgeon Trail and built all of the benches along the trail. He found great pleasure in working with the DNR on the Shoreline Restoration Project and with the Wolf River Basin Partnership. King is survived by his wife Virginia and their children Melissa (Ken) Limas, Milwaukee; Jeffrey (Denise) Pharr, Menasha and Sean (Maggie) Pharr, Chicago. He is further survived by his brother David Mason (Paula) Pharr, Mountain Home, Arkansas and grandchildren; Cheyenne Pharr, Zachary and Harper Jo Limas. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Lena and Jane. The funeral service for King will take place on Friday February 20, 2009 at 11:00am at First Congregational Church in New London with Rev. Greg Watling officiating. King's friends and family are invited to call at the Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London on Thursday evening from 4-8pm and also at the church on Friday from 9:00am until the time of service. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Cheryl and Lisa Prahl for the special care shown to King over the last three years. A memorial fund has been established.
