Larry Harvey Schlueter, age 78, of New London, passed away on August 17, 2026.
Larry was born on March 3, 1948, in Hutchinson, Minnesota, to Harvey and Doris (Schmeling) Schlueter. He attended Hutchinson High School and later graduated from St. Cloud State University with a degree in Education.
Larry married the love of his life, Luci (Hoversten), in 1969. Together, they built a life centered around family, friendship, and community and were blessed with four sons.
In 1971, Larry and Luci moved to New London, Wisconsin, where they raised their family and made their home. Larry began a 32-year career with the New London School District, where he served in many roles, including Driver’s Education instructor, coach, class advisor, Athletic Director, and Dean of Students. Throughout his career, Larry genuinely enjoyed working with the students and staff and took great pride in being part of the New London school community.
Larry enjoyed remaining involved in New London athletics even when he was not coaching. He especially enjoyed working on the sideline crew at football games and operating the scoreboard for basketball games. Being around the students, athletes, coaches, and community was something he truly enjoyed.
As much as Larry valued his career, nothing was more important to him than his family. He made it a priority to attend the games, activities, and special events of his children and grandchildren. He was a constant presence in their lives and took great pride in each of them.
Larry also deeply cherished the time he spent with his friends, siblings, and extended family. Most of the things he enjoyed were made better because they could be shared with the people he loved. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, ATV riding throughout Wisconsin and with friends in Arizona, spending time at his cabin on the river, playing Jokers, cheering on the Milwaukee Brewers, Wisconsin Badgers, and Green Bay Packers. He also enjoyed visiting relatives and friends in Minnesota, going to the Minnesota State Fair, and simply getting together with family and friends.
One of Larry’s memorable traditions was putting on brat fries at the University of Minnesota for his sons, their friends, and family. He also enjoyed being part of the Monday Night Football group that gathered at the Lathrop cabin to watch the game, share stories, and enjoy one another’s company.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Luci; his four sons and their families: Jeff (Kerstin) and daughter Courtney; Jason (Terra) and their children, Owen and Jonah; Joel (Kandi) and their children, Hunter, Kiara, and Reed; and Justin (Megan) and their son, Landon.
He is further survived by his siblings, Ron (Norene) Schlueter, Randy (Chris) Schlueter, and Deb (Greg) Holtz; his in-laws, Duane Hoversten, Donna Hoversten, Steve (Joan) Roepke, and Richard Hoversten; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Doris Schlueter; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ardis and Leola Hoversten; his sister-in-law, Erika; and his niece, Sandy.
A funeral service celebrating Larry’s life will be held at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London, Wisconsin, on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
Larry’s life was defined by the relationships he built and the time he gave to others, as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, military veteran, educator, coach, colleague, and friend. His greatest joy was simply being with the people he loved, and the many friendships, traditions, stories, and memories he leaves behind will continue to be cherished by all who knew him.
