Lee Dexter Beattie, age 88, went to his eternal home on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. Lee was born on November 1, 1936 in New London to the late Marvin and Bessie Beattie. He married Anita Pennings and they later divorced. He met the love of his life, Carol (Brown-Young) and they were united in marriage on May 21, 1973. Lee was a Korean War Veteran and served his country from 1953 – 1957. He was a part of the anti tank company and was stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. He was deployed to Korea on the US Merchant Marine ship that was converted to carry troops over sea. Lee was injured in a training exercise, where live ammunition was mistakenly used and he later received an honorable discharge. He received a good conduct medal and also went to welder's school after being discharged. Lee was employed by Neenah Foundry for over 25 years. He did many jobs there, but spent his last year as a janitor. The only person I know that would leave for work 2 hours early to get everyone fired up. He and his accomplice Warren, would get summoned to the office often because of the mischief they were constantly up to. He really enjoyed working there and the people he met. Lee also loved to spend time outdoors in his yard building things, being on the water, spending time with his wife and blended family, and making us laugh because of his selective hearing. He was blessed with the ability to play music without knowing how to read notes. Lee had rhythm like no one I've seen. He could play a hum strum, accordion and the piano and make each of them into his own masterpiece.
Lee is survived by his children, Mike (Chris) Young, Kim (Ed) Gabel, Julie (Corey) Berg, Becky (John) Hothlesberger-Young, Jan (Arlie) Gensler, Joe (Debbie) Young, Jackie Lekfield, Duane "Dewey" Young and Jason Beattie; son-in-law, Gary Akerland; sisters, Betty Jane Lute and Connie (Dave) Bentley; sisters-in-law, Denka Guyette, Nancy Allen and Patti Brown; his brother-in-law, David Brown; grandchildren, Michelle, Mike Jr., Melissa, Michel, Alisha (Beanie), Richard, Jessie, Abby, Jennifer, Chuck, Beth, Melinda, Amanda, Amy, Emily, Joshua, Olivia, Jamie, Graham, Hannah, Gavin and Rikki and also 33 great-grandchildren.
