Obituary

Leon Roger Knapp, age 79 of Ogdensburg, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Sylvan Crossings Memory Care in Stevens Point with his wife Cheryl by his side, after a battle with Alzheimer's disease.  Leon was born in the Township of Deer Creek - New London, to the late Albert and Madeline (Weber) Knapp on April 5, 1946.  After graduating from Bear Creek High School with the Class of 1965, he served his country in the US Army for 2 years.  Leon worked for Outagamie County, Hillshire, and for 20 years at Curwood.  He was later self-employed, building and remodeling homes. He built 9 homes.  Leon was born and raised on a farm – it was always in his blood.  He went back into farming – milking cows, tending sheep, goats, chickens, horses and even baling hay, until 2 years ago. He also had a mink and fox farm.  Leon's true passion was his dogs and coon hunting. Fishing was what he did for enjoyment.

Leon is survived by his wife, Cheryl Gustafson-Knapp; sons, Shannon (Anna) Knapp, Scott (Kristin) Knapp, Kristopher Knapp; his step-children, Jody Morbeck, Julie (Frank) Townsend and Michael (Nicole) Gustafson; grandchildren, Dalton Knapp, Heather (Justin) Spulak, Tanner Knapp, Chase Knapp, Timothy Knapp, Chay Knapp, Tyler Knapp, Lily Knapp, Joshua Knapp, Josh Morbeck, Justin Morbeck, Jacob Morbeck, Bradley (Jennifer) Hess, Nathan (Tori) Eichler, Alyssa Eichler, Taylor Walls, Sophia Gustafson, Elyse Gustafson and Lauren Gustafson; great-grandchildren, Jaide, Colten, Levi, Skylar, Amelia, Charlie, Nevayah, Maleyah, Ozzlynn, Noah, Lilah and Max.  He is also survived by his sister, Bernice Reeck and brother, John Knapp, along with nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Leon was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Knapp; sister, Donna Griffin; daughters, Julie Knapp and Gena Knapp and also his beloved hunting dogs, Yankee, Bruiser and Bing.

The family would like to thank Aspirus Hospital in Stevens Point for the care and kindness shown to Leon while he was there.  Thank you Moments Hospice for being there for our family and Leon in his final days.  Thank you staff at Sylvan Crossings for all you did for Leon.  You are all angels.  Thank you Pastor Josh Nelson.
