Marie Jean Hess, age 68, lost her battle with cancer on Sunday, January 1, 2023. She left this world on her favorite day of the year, New Year's Day, her birthday! It was the perfect time to move into her heavenly home and reunite with her beloved husband and best friend, David (Okie) Hess. She loved him so, and had missed him greatly since his passing in 2007.
Marie was born in Elmhurst, Illinois, on January 1, 1955. She was the daughter of Donald and Lucille Meyer. She met the love of her life, David Hess, while he was serving in the US Navy. Marie and David married in 1981 in David's hometown of Lawton, Oklahoma where their children, Timothy and Kelly, were born. After a few visits, David fell in love with Marie's beautiful Wisconsin. Her dream to return home came true in 1991. They lived life to the fullest with their children and grandchildren at their river home on the Cut-off in New London.
Marie was one of the sweetest, funniest, most generous, and most genuine ladies you could ever meet. She was incredibly in touch with her feelings. Her laughter was contagious…uplifting and effortless. Her frequent tears were endearing, both joyful and sad, and straight from her heart. Marie was for real. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and fiercely loyal friend. Her emotions reflected how much she loved life, her family and her friends. What a blessing she was and will remain.
Survivors include her son Timothy Hess (special friend Jennifer) and grandson Tyler Hess. Daughter Kelly Hess Bergen (special friend Michael) and granddaughter Kendra Bergen. Siblings Bruce Meyer (Becky), Dale Meyer (Sharon), Joyce Meyer Jay (Chris), Craig Meyer (Joanne), and Jeanette Meyer Baerwald (Chad). She is also survived by David's siblings Carmen, Charissa, Keith and Kathy and their families, as well as by many nieces, nephews and other dear friends in Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and California. Marie loved and was loved by them all.
A special thanks to Latiffa Wanty for your compassionate, loving heart and for just being you.
A Celebration of Life for Marie will be held from 1-3 pm on April 16, 2023, at Readfield Gun Club, E8694 County Road H, Fremont, WI, 54940.
