Mary Lou
Hooyman
January 15, 1929 – January 22, 2023
Mary Lou's Funeral Service Video
On this day, January 22, 2023, the Angels in heaven were rejoicing as Marion Louise "Mary Lou" Hooyman age 94, formerly of Shiocton, entered our Lords heavenly kingdom! She came into this world on January 15, 1929, as the firstborn of proud parents Clyde & Gladys (Kaddatz) Main, in the Town of Ellington.
In her late teen years, she met a sweet and loving man, Alex "Butch" Hooyman on a blind date. On May 22, 1947, they were united in marriage. They shared a wonderful and busy life together until Butch was called to his heavenly home on November 26, 1993.
In the years that followed after they were married, they lived and built a home in Shiocton, then moved to a farm near Black Creek. After a few years, they bought and operated Hooyman's Store in Stephensville, WI. During these years, along with her and Butch farming, raising their 10 children, plus raising & caring for over 40 foster children, Mary Lou graduated from Outagamie Teachers College and worked for the US postal service.
In 1977, Mary Lou received a Post Masters position in Grand Marais, MI. They loved it there. She did eventually, go elsewhere for the post office but their main residence was Grand Marais until Butch's passing. Mary Lou never sat still. She loved and was excellent at knitting, crocheting, sewing, quilting, and making rugs on the rug loom Butch put together for her. She also loved playing cards, doing puzzles, checking her Facebook page, singing, and dancing. So much dancing! We can still see her out on the dance floor, at 92 years old, shaking her booty to polka with her walker. Everyone loved her delicious ebleskivers.
But most of all she loved being a wife to Butch, a mom, grandmother, great, and great-great-grandmother!
She will always be loved and missed by her surviving children, sons, James Hooyman and Bruce (Patti) Hooyman, daughters, Deborah (Phillip) Klotz, Christine Pociopa, Judy (Pat) Kelly, Lisa (Duane) Bann, Mary Jo (Lance) Volkman, and Monica Earl; foster son Richard (Grace) Schweitzer, son-in-law, Jeff Trent, and also her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
She is further survived by her brother Gene Main; sisters, Linda Suprise and Sally Piechocki; brother and sisters-in-law, Donna Main, Judy Main, Roseann (Donald) Smith and Audrey (Gene) Blake. As she arrives in heaven, she is welcomed by her loving husband Butch, her parents Clyde and
Gladys, her in-laws Earl and Elizabeth, her beautiful daughters, Margaret (Peggy) Wagner and Carolyn (Sue) Smith, her handsome sons Gary Hooyman and Steven Hooyman; son-in-laws James Wagner and Jack Pociopa; precious grandchildren, Jeffery Trent Jr., Claudia Smith, Aaron Steffen, and Krystal Torres-Smith, and precious great-grandchildren, Alex and Tristan Steffen and Amelia Alexandria Mattes.
Also welcoming her to heaven are her brothers, Donald, Keith (Helen) and Jim Main; sisters Joyce (Jim) Pluger and Lila (Dean) Strong; brothers and sisters-in-law, Karen Main, Ray Suprise, Herb (Agnes) Hooyman, Hilde (Victor) Fermanich, Helena (Nick) Kruzicki, Betty (Buzz) Kanaman, Gene Hooyman, Clare (Leander) Petit, Theresa (Wally) Buchner.
