Obituary

Matthew Carl Obry, age 36, unexpectedly passed away on April 3, 2026. Matt was born on September 27, 1989. He graduated Hortonville High School in 2008. He then went to the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and graduated in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in economics. After college he moved to Milwaukee and started his career at US Bank and held various positions as a Financial Operations Specialist.

Matthew had a curious mind and a unique perspective on the world. He enjoyed following Formula 1 racing and cheering on the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, Milwaukee Bucks, and MMA fights. He had a fascination with conspiracy theories and appreciated thoughtful debate, always eager to explore new ideas.

He had a great sense of humor and loved engaging in deep, philosophical conversations. Curious about everything, Matthew enjoyed spending time with friends and embracing new adventures. His friendships meant a great deal to him, and he truly valued the time, laughter, and conversations he shared with those close to him. He spent time volunteering at the Humane Society and also fostered dogs.

He deeply missed his father and often reminisced about the good times they shared when he was young. He always wanted to make his dad proud.

Matthew and his sister could spend hours talking, often debating and occasionally driving each other a little crazy, but those conversations were a meaningful part of their bond. They also enjoyed talking about their genealogy.

He loved attending music festivals, where he could relax and take in the energy of the crowd. He also enjoyed traveling, practicing jiu-jitsu, and studying stoicism, interests that reflected both his adventurous spirit and his thoughtful nature. He also tried his hand at stand-up comedy and had the opportunity to meet Joe Rogan, whom he greatly admired.

Matthew will be remembered for his individuality, his passions, and the way he saw the world. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.

He is survived by his mother, Debra Obry; his sister, Jessica (Obry) Larson, and brother-in-law, TJ Larson; his niece, Miki Schroeder; and his nephews, Jake (Sadie) Larson and Trent (Carly) Larson. He is also survived by his uncles, Dean (Maggie) Obry, Vaughn (Pam) Obry, Ron (Donna) Lenzner, Keith (LeAnn) Lenzner, Scott Lenzner, and Kent Lenzner; his aunts, Lynette (Paul) Gitter, Patti Davis, and Kathy (Mike) Paltzer; great niece, Emma Dailey; as well as numerous cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Obry; his paternal grandparents, Marvin and Helen Obry; his maternal grandparents, Wallace and Ramona Lenzner; his uncles Neil Davis and Greg Greisbach; his aunt Donna (Lenzner) Fox; and his cousin, Patrick Tate.

We would like to thank the Austin Police Department, Medical Examiner's office and Austin Mortuary Services as well as Borchardt Moder Funeral Home for all their assistance in bringing Matt back home.
