Nyra Jane Marie
Thiel
Sep 8, 1950 — Sep 9, 2026
New London
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Nyra Jane Marie Thiel. Nyra Jane was born on September 8, 1950, in New London, Wisconsin, to the late Orvin and Phyllis (Tiedt) Rieckmann, and she passed away one day after her 76th birthday, on Wednesday, September 9, 2026
Nyra Jane was a woman who found joy in the simple things and made meaningful connections with everyone she met. She worked as a school secretary until her retirement, while also working part time at Fleet Farm where she enjoyed interacting with others. In Nyra Jane’s free time, she enjoyed working in her flower gardens, watching Brewer games, attending her grandkids' school sports, and enjoyed spending time in the kitchen baking and cooking. She took pride in the little things, like hanging clothes out on the line, simply because she loved the clean, fresh smell. She loved traveling and going on road trips, enjoying the ventures and seeing the sites along the way. On those trips she liked stopping for delicious Amish bakery treats and picking up annual flowers to make her hanging baskets. Nyra Jane was independent and incredibly organized. She had a way of keeping things “just so”. At the end of the day, she could be found working on crossword puzzles, reading a good book, or embroidering dish towels by hand.
Nyra Jane was the proud and loving mother of three children – Jody (Barb) Thiel, Todd (fiance Tracy) Thiel, and Heather (John) Hass – whom she lived her life for.
She was also a cherished grandmother to four wonderful grandchildren, Trevor (Mollie), Hailey (David), McKenzie (Hunter), and Mason (friend Lexy) ; two step-grandchildren, Lance and Eric; four great-grandchildren, MacCoy, Myles, Wynn, Murphy, with another on the way; and four step-great grandchildren, Kyra, Sasha, Blake, and Brooke.
Along with her children and grandchildren, Nyra Jane will be missed by her siblings, Jerold Rieckmann, Connie Prasher, Dawn Rieckmann, Bobbie (Barbara) Leibold; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Orvin and Phyllis; her sister, Charleen Rieckmann; her brother, Jay Rieckmann; and brother-in-law, Bob Leibold.
The family would like to thank her caregivers of ThedaCare Hospice for the special care and love they gave Nyra Jane.
In honor of the family’s wishes, no funeral services will be held. Burial will be at Dale Union Cemetery.
