Pamela (Dayton) Steiger, 66, lately of Tucson, Arizona, and long-time resident of Hortonville, Wisconsin passed away after a long battle with breast cancer. She was surrounded by loved ones at the time she passed.
Pam was born on August 16, 1956 to Thomas and Maxine Dayton in La Crosse, Wisconsin. After graduating from Aquinas High School in 1974, Pam went on to study Education and History at Edgewood College. She met her lifelong friend June. After college, Pam got her first teaching job at Ss. Peter & Paul grade school in Hortonville. She also met her future husband, Dave, that first year. Pam and Dave got married January 26, 1980. They went on to have four kids, Brittney, Brynne, Breanna and Brandon.
Pam went on to teach at St. Bernadette and St. Joe's Middle School in Appleton, Wisconsin. She worked with some of the best teachers, Nancy, JoAnne, Darryl, Lee, Joyce and Jan. She moved on to New London Middle School to again find some great co-teachers, Anne, Aimee, Jay, Julie, Roberta, Ruth and Pete. Pam absolutely LOVED teaching middle schoolers! She finished her teaching career at Fox Valley Technical College. She dedicated over 40 years to teaching.
One of Pam's passions was officiating sports. Pam and Dave, together, umpired baseball and softball and refereed basketball. Pam was the first woman to umpire Wisconsin State Boys Baseball. Pam and Dave were recently inducted into the Fox Cities Official's Hall of Fame.
Pam is survived by her husband Dave of 43 years. Her children, Brittney (Ron Orr), Brynne (Josh Hounsell), Breanna (Josh Patton) and Brandon. Her grandchildren, Ty, Jack and DJ Orr, Islee and Irelyn Hounsell, and Baylor, Jase and Wyatt Patton. Her brother, Brian Dayton and sister, Karie Oelke. Brother and sister in-law, Dennis and Sandy Steiger and sister in-law, Debbie Muskevitsch. She is also survived by many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Pam was preceded in death by her parents and her in-laws.
Pam's family would like to give a sincere thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale/Phoenix. They would especially like to thank Dr. Liu for his excellent care of Pam and for all of the family. The family would also like to thank everyone at Grace Hospice Care of Tucson. Dr. Martz and team have been so supportive of Pam and the whole family.

There will be a celebration of life at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Hortonville, Wisconsin on Thursday, August 31, 2023. The visitation will be from 4-6 pm. Mass will be at 6 pm following visitation. Father Phil Schoofs will be celebrating the Mass.
Inurnment will take place at SS Peter & Paul Cemetery at a later date.
