Randall "Randy, Big R" Lee Van Straten, age 66, of Shiocton, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023, at UW Health University Hospital after a battle with numerous health complications. He was born on July 26, 1956, in New London, to the late Gerald and Arlene (Ellis) Van Straten. On July 24, 1982, Randy was united in marriage to the love of his life, Kerrie Conradt.

Randy attended and graduated from Shiocton High School. He worked as an electrician and taught Hunter Safety classes for many years.

Throughout his life Randy enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and genuinely loved the outdoors. Horses, mules, and driving/riding were some of his greatest past times. Randy was also a wonderful photographer and cook, which he spent countless hours trying to perfect. His favorite was to see his children and family together and above all loved being "Grandpa Candy". He will be missed for his long-extended talks, well explained questions and the overall love he showed to those around him.

Randy is survived by his two children, Annette "Annie" (Justin) Preisler and Theodore "Ted" (Kayla) Van Straten; seven grandchildren, Lucille, Eleanore, Vincent, and Mabel Preisler and Willliam, Thomas, and Audrey Van Straten; and siblings, Diane Seidler (Van Straten), Wayne (Diana) Van Straten, Doug (Sue) Van Straten and Jennifer (Marvin) Garrison. He is further survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Laurie (Mike) Behnke, Kay Conradt and Amy (Jim) McGlone; numerous nieces and nephews including his Godson, Matt Powers; and the many close family and friends that called him their own.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kerrie; his parents, mother and father-in-law, Charles (Audrey) Conradt and brother-in-law, Greg Conradt.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at St. Denis Catholic Church in Shiocton. Visitation will be held at church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Randy will be laid to rest in the Bovina Cemetery. After the burial folks are invited to a celebration luncheon and bonfire at Charlie's Riverpiece.

Randy's family would like to extend a thank you to the staff at the UW-Hospital for all the care and support given during his stay.
