Rita Ann Young, age 85 of Shiocton, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at St. Joseph Residence in New London.  Rita was born on October 13, 1938 in New London to the late Melvin and Margaret (Bronold) Burton.  On April 11, 1959 she married Delton Young.  Rita worked at Shiocton School District as a cook and then went on to cook at the Outagamie County Jail.  Family meant everything to Rita.  Any friend of her children's or grandchildren was counted as one of her own.  "Granny Rita" fed a lot of people in Shiocton.  She always wanted to see everyone fed!  Rita loved to cook and could whip up a meal from little or near nothing.  She was well known for her chili and buns.  Rita was counted upon and was a reliable babysitter, which brought her much joy.  She loved to go, go, go….. just start a car, and she was ready.  Rita loved cards, especially cribbage.  From time to time, she satisfied her gambling itch at a casino.  Rita was an outstanding woman, who would never pass judgment on anybody.  It may seem that she was an uncommonly simple woman, whose entire life was family and cookin – but this uncommonly simple woman lives forever in our hearts and taught us how to love!

Rita is survived by her children, Bryan Young, Bruce Young, Bradley Young, Bart (Michelle) Young, Brenda (Mark) Latza and Bonnie Young (special friend, John); son-in-law, Ted Rusch; grandchildren, Nikole (Brian) Drath, Amber Young, Alex (Kari) Young, Jennifer Ashauer, Ryan (Tara) Young, Eric Young, Ashley (Mitchell) Metoxen, Abby Young, Emily Young, Spencer (Kalynn) Young, Hunter Young, Tyler Stockwell, Riley Stockwell, Cody Stockwell and Max Latza; great-grandchildren, Owen, Brooklyn, Quinn, Jordyn, Quenton, Noah, Isaiah, Charlotte, Violet, Leigha, Larissa, Monica, Marah, Eva, Emma, Bellah, Maya, Norah and Abraham, along with her siblings, Harold (Bonnie) Burton, Roy (Marlene) Burton, her twin sister, Ruth Shepherd and Kathleen Happ and sisters-in-law, Pat Burton and Vaugn Burton.

In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Delton; daughter, Beverly Rusch; brothers, Norman "Jim" (Ann) Burton, Russell Burton, Neil Burton and a brother and sister in infancy, as well as, brothers-in-law, Richard Shepherd and Arnold Happ.

The Memorial Service for Rita will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2024 at Borchardt Moder Funeral Home in Shiocton with Rev. Kevin Dembinski officiating.  The visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Rita's family wishes to thank the staff at St. Joes and Compassus Hospice for their care and compassion.
