Robert "Bob" J. Marcks, age 92, of New London had his number called to join the big game in the sky on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at ThedaCare in Neenah. Bob was born on January 5, 1932 to the late Gordon and Lorraine (Lorenz) Marcks in Sturgeon Bay, WI. He was united in marriage to Joyce Zuhse on July 26, 1958 in Clintonville. Bob and Joyce enjoyed 52 years of wedded bliss until she preceded him in death in 2010. Bob Graduated from New London High School in 1949. He then served his country in The United States Air Force. He worked at S.C. Shannon in Appleton for many years, retiring in 1994. He was an avid sports fan who showed nothing but love to the teams he cheered for. Bob closely followed the Cubs, Packers, New London Bulldogs, and New London Clippers baseball program. Bob was a proud member of The American Legion and was instrumental in the Clippers baseball program. Bob's service to the Legion and the Clippers program was honored by naming the yearly steak fry in his name. He was also a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a charter member of The New London Booster Club.
Bob is survived by his children, Jodi (Steve) Gruentzel and Sue Bender (special friend Brian); grandchildren, Trisha (Stacy) Peterson, Joe (Nicole) Gruentzel, Brant Bender, Garrett Bender (special friend Dana); great-grandchildren, Lily and Charlie Peterson and Ruby and Reed Gruentzel; sister, Ginny Peters; sisters in law, Sue Marcks and Dorla Marcks; and brother in law, David Rusch. Bob is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; parents; brothers, Richard and Gerald "Bucky" Marcks; sister, Fern Rusch; and special friend, Carol Grossman.
The Funeral Service for Bob will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New London. Rev. Chuck Thompson will be officiating. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service, full military honors will also take place. Burial will take place at a later date in Floral Hill Cemetery.
For those able to attend the visitation for Bob the family asks that you wear sports gear to represent your favorite team… Unless your favorite team is the Cardinals.
In lieu of flowers a Memorial Fund has been established to help support the New London Clippers baseball program.
