Robert Poppy, age 89, of King, Wisconsin, passed away on May 24, 2023 at the Wisconsin Veteran's Home at King.

Bob was born and raised in the New London area to Fred and Grace (Boelter). He attended New London schools and graduated from New London High. After graduating, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy. During his four years of service, Bob served in operation "Castle Bravo" where he witnessed the detonation of the largest thermo-nuclear devise in U.S. Military history. In his later years, Robert endured health issues, due to his exposure to intense radiation.

After his service in the Navy, Bob attended MSOE, earning and Engineering Degree. Bob worked 30 years with Milwaukee Stove and Furnace Supply Company. In 1989, Bob "retired" to the farm. He bought the former John Danks' farm and operated it as long as his health permitted.

Bob was an avid hunter and bagged his first turkey when he was 75 years old! He loved the Green Bay Packers and "Backed the Pack". In his earlier years, Bob and his wife, Darla, traveled the country in an RV. Every summer, Bob and Darla grew a garden and preserved what they harvested. Bob enjoyed bird watching as well. Bob loved when his grand and great-grandchildren would come up to the farm.

Those left to remember Bob are his son, Greg (Leann) Poppy; daughter in-law, Theresa Poppy; grandchildren, Heather Poppy, Melissa (Jessie) Enger, Sara (Nick) Jessup, Brenda (Robert Herlache) Poppy; great-grandchildren, Jayden, Baylie, Carter and Morgan; siblings, Wayne Poppy and Betty Dowd.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Grace; son, Chris Poppy; grandson, Robert P. Poppy; siblings, Clifford Poppy, Marian Wienandt and Pearl Mae Poppy.
