Ronald "Red" Chauncey Suprise, age 84, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on May 15, 2022. He was born on April 17, 1938 at home in New London, son of the late Chauncey and Frieda (Gerndt) Suprise. Ron was baptized on May 8, 1938 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London and later confirmed there on June 1, 1952. On August 6, 1960, Red was united in marriage to Janice Retzlaff in Hortonville. Red served in the US Navy on the U.S.S. Salem. He worked construction for several companies before forming Red & Dave's Construction, building many homes in the Hortonville and New London areas. Red served his community as a member of the Hortonville School Board, Fire Department, Hortonia Town Clerk/Chairman, Bethlehem Church Council and as a state building inspector. He loved to travel, fish, woodwork, play cards, spend time with friends & family, and his special hunting trips. Red enjoyed dancing to the Waltz Across Texas with his wife of 61 years. They were Texas snowbirds for over 20 years in the Rio Grande Valley.
Red is survived by his wife, Janice; children, Julie (Ron) Wingate, Gail (Jeff) Beyer, and Rodney (Cindy) Suprise; grandchildren, Reggie (Lisa) Wingate, Whitney (Mark) Baumann, Riley (fiancé, Julie) Wingate, Alissa (Aaron) Schulz, Casey (Jake) Radtke, Chris (Kayla) Barkholtz, Anna (Nic) Gartner, Jeff (Bonnie) Beyer, Jenny (René) Perales, Charlie Beyer, Kari Hill and Kayla Jarchow; and twenty-two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Carol Longworth, Betty Manley, Roger (Bubbles) Retzlaff, Peggy (Dow) Miller, Maren Retzlaff, Dave Waterstradt, Sherry Fietzer, Debra (Jim) Olesen, Susan (Timothy) Bohr, Randall (Ingrid) Retzlaff, and Don Behm (special friend, Loretta). He is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Red was preceded in death by his parents; sister Loris Behm and brother Terrold Suprise; in-laws, Gene (Lorraine) Retzlaff, Wendell Longworth, Marilyn Sawall, Richard (Cathy) Retzlaff, Sandra Retzlaff, Robert (Mary) Retzlaff, Billy Retzlaff, Barbara Waterstradt, Lyle Fietzer, and Gary Retzlaff; and son-in-law, Randy Barkholtz.
The funeral service for Red will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 20, 2022, at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Readfield with Rev. Peter Kesting officiating. The visitation will take place at church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial with full military honors will be at Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery, town of Lebanon following the service.
