They had 64 years of marriage together prior to Ken's passing in 2018.

Over the many years, Ruth proved to be a servant of the Lord in all of her work with the Catholic Church. She sat on the Board of Education for the Diocese of Green Bay, as a teacher's aide at the St. Mary's Catholic School in Bear Creek. Ruth connected with many children and families, she was the music director for St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bear Creek. She and Ken co-chaired the first-ever St. Mary's Sauerkraut Festival at St. Mary's with Roger and Jayne Rohan. Jayne and Ruth also established the St. Theresa Thrift shop in the St. Mary's church. Ruth was a long-time member of the Parish Council of Catholic Women, and also served her community with her singing voice as she gifted many in a positive way at countless funerals and weddings.
Ruth was a lover of children and it was reflected in her continuous need to listen, advise, give a hug and be a friend to so many. An example of this was her desire to send out cards to each and every one of her family – even after her hands no longer made it possible to write legibly. She was vigilant to add a bible verse in each card to make it special.
Mom would always remind us:
