Sallyann A. (Bergman) Mathewson, age 93 of New London passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at St. Joseph Residence in New London. Sally was born on June 13, 1932 in New London to the late Hugo and Grace (Pieper) Bergman. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Emanuel Lutheran Church, as well as going to school there. She met Dewey (DuWayne Mathewson) at Washington High School and they later married on June 30, 1951. Together they enjoyed their family and lived their best life for 50 years, until Dewey passed away on October 16, 2001. They are reunited, dancing again with Dewey singing in her ear. Sally lived a full and busy life, with four children she went to work at Huzzar's Grocery Store. Sally became a working partner of the Jim Dandy Drive Inn in Fremont. She was manager at Kathy's Bazaar and Clothing Store in Weyauwega. She and Dewey owned and operated the Blue Grotto Supper Club in Bear Creek. Sally loved tending bar at The Rainbow Supper Club, as well as managing the bar at the American Legion. She retired as an evening custodian at Parkview School. During their life, she and Dewey hosted some amazing parties and also loved going to see plays and ballroom dancing in Chicago and Milwaukee. Sally was a lifetime member of Emanuel Lutheran Church and had a strong relationship with her Savior.
Sally is survived by her children, Debra (Ed) Bellile, Terri (Robert) Murphy, Pamela (Bruce) Kloehn and Greg Mathewson (special friend, Brenda Fielding); grandchildren, Chris (Deb) Bellile, Tracie Bellile Kling, Kelly (Ian) Kling, Matt (Suzi) Murphy, Travis (Heather) Kloehn, Jennifer (Joel) Laubenstein, Jason (Becky) Kloehn and Lindsey (Charlie) Spiegelberg; sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. She is further survived by her sister-in-law, Jean Bergman and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents and husband, DuWayne, Sally was preceded in death by two sisters; six brothers; four sisters-in-law and eight brothers-in-law.
The Memorial Service for Sally will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London with Rev. William Heiges officiating. The visitation will take place at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at St. Joseph Residence for their excellent and compassionate care given to Sallyann and also a big thank you to Moment's Hospice for all the exceptional care, love and compassion shown to Sally and also her family.
