Steven "Freddy"
M. Frederick
May 9, 1959 – April 19, 2022
Steven Frederick's Memorial Mass Video
We lost our beloved husband, son, brother, uncle and friend on April 19, 2022. Steve was 62 years old. The Packers, Brewers and Bucks lost a super fan. Steve was born on May 9, 1959, to Kathryn (Gorman) and Howard Frederick of the Township of Maple Creek, where the family farmed and the kids played basketball in the haymow and baseball into the dusk of every summer night. Steve attended Most Precious Blood Elementary School and graduated from New London High School with the class of 1977. As a Bulldog, he proudly played football, basketball and baseball, lettering a dozen times. After graduating High School, he attended UW Oshkosh earning a Bachelor of Science Degree and playing baseball for the Oshkosh Titans. He avidly played baseball and later softball into his 30s, sharing fond memories of victories alongside his brothers and good friends. On October 12, 1985, Steve married his best friend, Janet Gretzinger. They enjoyed Packer games, camping around the state, trips out west, raising their beloved golden retrievers and "city" campfires with good friends. There was always a cold Busch Light waiting and the opportunity to choose a song around the campfire when it was "your turn". Steve worked in bridge construction for 21 years, first as a laborer and ultimately managing jobs for Pheifer Bros. Construction, Neenah, WI. After leaving construction, he worked for Bemis Corporation, later Amcor for 10 years. He was a diligent and dependable employee that was well-liked by all who knew him. Steve was looking forward to retirement in 2022 and hoping to spend time at their camper at Pine Grove.
Steve is survived by his wife, Janet. He is further survived by his mother, Kathryn Frederick; brothers, Tom (Ellen), Mike (Katie) and Jimmy (Colleen); sister, Jean (Clint) Skewes; his mother-in-law Nancy Gretzinger; brothers-in-law, Mike (Shawn) Gretzinger, Dan (Jane) Gretzinger, John (Brenda) Gretzinger; sister-in-law, Ann (Mike) Buchman and many special nieces, nephews and friends. Steve is also survived by his golden retriever, Louis.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Howard Frederick; his sister, Debby Nolan; brother-in-law, Dan Nolan; his nephew, Wesley Skewes and his father-in-law, Robert Gretzinger. Steve rescued, loved and lost his beloved dogs, Piper, Reggie, Vince and Chance.
The Memorial Mass for Steve will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 25, 2022 at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in New London with Fr. John Kleinschmidt officiating. Visitation will take place on Sunday, April 24, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London and again from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be in New Maple Creek Cemetery, Township of Maple Creek.
A more kind heart and warm smile did we ever know? We will miss you and remember you with a favorite song…..
There is no crying in baseball until after the last out, in the last inning, in the last game, of your career.
