Tom Mathewson's Memorial Service Video

Thomas K. Mathewson, age 94 of New London passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, December 18, 2023 surrounded by his loved ones.  Tom was born in New London on July 15, 1929 to the late Richard and Mabel (Grote) Mathewson.  He was the last survivor of thirteen brothers and sisters.  After New London High School, Tom proudly joined the US Air Force as a control tower operator.  Later he and his brother, Dewey took over the burial vault business in New London area.  On November 28th, 1952 he married the beautiful, Janice Prahl.  Together they raised two great sons, Randy and Mark.  Tom became a successful insurance salesman, until his retirement.  He loved to cook great meals and delicious desserts, sharing them with family and friends.  For the last 50 years, Tom became family friends and a companion to Lonny Paalman and the entire Paalman family – enjoying trips up north to Land O' Lakes, going hunting, fishing and adventures to several unique locations around the world.  He would often cook shrimp and egg rolls with his extended family.

Tom is survived by his son, Randy (Karen) Mathewson and their daughter (grandchild), Erin (Michael) Eferem and their children (great-grandchildren) Ethan, Virginia and Ellis Eferem; son, Eric (Lilia) Mathewson and their daughter (great-grandchild), Thea. Tom's son, Mark (Lori) Mathewson and their daughter (grandchild), Sage (Jordan) Mathewson and their daughter (great-grandchild), Gemma; sisters-in-law, Sally Mathewson and Debbie Mathewson and brother-in-law, Kerran Prahl.  He is further survived by Lonny Paalman and the entire Paalman family, along with many nieces, nephews and their extended families.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; twelve siblings and many in-laws.

The Memorial Service for Tom will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London.  Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery, New London at a later date.
