Viona "Vi" Ruth Heuer, age 96 of New London, formerly of Dale, passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at St. Joseph Residence in New London. Vi was born on April 14, 1929 in Appleton to the late Raymond Sr. and Lula (Prochnow) Oberstadt. She married Dallas Heuer, son of Ralph and Ruth Heuer on June 3, 1950 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London. They were married 55 loving years before he preceded her in death on November 4, 2005. Vi moved to New London shortly after Dallas' passing. After graduating from Washington High School with the Class of 1947, she completed her Bachelor of Science degree in education at UW Oshkosh. She taught for thirty years of which four years were at Clover Leaf School (a one room country school north of Dale) and twenty six of were at Readfield Elementary in the New London Public School System. She retired in 1989. Vi's passion for teaching and working with children continued in the "United for Reading Success Program" at the Greenville Elementary School. Following this she worked with the STEP program at Lincoln and Readfield Elementary Schools until the age of 81. There were many professional organizations that Vi belonged to, such as lifetime member of National Education Association, the Wisconsin Education Association Council, the Wisconsin Retired Educators Association and the Outagamie Retired Educators Association.
Vi and her husband spent 45 enjoyable years house boating on the Fox, Wolf, and Mississippi Rivers. They enjoyed snowmobiling, being chartered members of the Dale Trailblazers, members of the Springstead Snow Birds and the Mercer Sno Goers. They enjoyed traveling and cruises abroad as well as in the United States. Their return trip from Europe on the QE II was one of their dreamed accomplishments, as was the following of the Lewis and Clark Trail on the Columbia River in the Northwest. After retirement, they spent as much time as possible at their second home on Lower Springstead Lake in Iron County. There she was a member of the Spark's Fireman's Auxiliary and the Women's Club. Vi was a faithful member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Greenville. She was involved in church related activities, especially the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
Vi is survived by her loving and caring family. Her children, Steven (Charlotte) Heuer, Jeffrey (Rhonda) Heuer and Debra Dequaine; grandchildren, Nancy Heuer-Galica, Tony (Jennifer) Heuer, Joanne (Lance) Bunnell, Matthew (Suzanne) Heuer, Stacy Dequaine and Curt (Crystal) Dequaine; 16 great-grandchildren, Sienna, Adi, Weston, Lyla, Ava, Jake, Julia, Evelyn, Clara, Dallas, McKenzie (Adam), Brandon, Johnathan, Zach, Riley and Koen and two great-great-grandchildren, Marlee and Isla. Vi is also survived by her sister, Patricia (Lester) Johnson; sister-in-law, Rose Oberstadt and brother-in-law, Jerry Heuer, along with many dear nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dallas, Vi was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Mark Dequaine; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Milton Spoehr; brother and sister-in-law, Gilbert and Jeanette Oberstadt; brother, Raymond Oberstadt; grandson, Shane Heuer; sister-in-law, Jane Lee and sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Don Schultz.
The Funeral Service for Vi will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Greenville with Pastor Chad Starfeldt officiating. The visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers at St. Joseph Residence in New London for their compassion and care giving, along with Moments Hospice.
