Wally's Memorial Service Video Link

Walter A. Spoehr Sr. "Big Wally", age 78, joined loved ones in heaven at 12:02 a.m., Saturday, December 20, 2025…….what a Christmas he will have! Wally was born on April 12, 1947 in New London to parents, Winfield Sr. and Lillian (Watson) Spoehr. Wally (with a "y", not Walter) graduated from New London and worked over 20 years for the City of New London.  He was raised with his eleven siblings and was embraced by an additional eight with his marriage into the Walbruck family.

Wally is survived by Carolyn R. (Walbruck) Spoehr, the mother of his children.  Though they walked separate paths in their lives, they shared love in their three children, son, Wally Jr. (Christa); daughters, Connie (Larry) Kalwitz and Julie Guyette (special friend, Bob Ingle); his grandchildren, who grew up with his famous Donald Duck voice, River Spoehr, Meadow (Brian) Knight, Nick (Courtney) Kalwitz, MacKenzie (Adam) Strobel, Taylor Kalwitz (Cam Severin), Chaise Guyette (friend, Caden DeSoto Lick), Dylan (Gabrielle) and Kasyn and Emersyn Ingle; great-grandchildren, Ira and Eleona Knight, Saylor and Saige Kalwitz, Aida Strobel and Finn Ingle; siblings, Maxine (Ron) O'Bright, Don Spoehr Sr. (friend, Barb Kurth) and Dan Spoehr Sr.; in-laws, John Walbruck Jr., Don Walbruck Sr., Elaine Schmandt, Helen Hoewisch, Jan (Dan) Bernhardt, Norman (Joy) Walbruck Sr., Betty (Tim) Granger, Larry (friend, Bev) Walbruck, and Joy Murray.  He is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and step-mother, Ruby, Wally was preceded in death by his siblings, Wesley Spoehr, Robert Spoehr, Dorothy Balthazor, LeRoy Spoehr, Winfield Jr. (Augie) Spoehr, Richard Spoehr, Delores Becker-Hedtke and Donna Johnson; father and mother-in-law, John Sr. and Clara Walbruck (which he held a special loving bond); sibling-in-laws, Helerian Balthazor, Jean Spoehr, Carolyn A. Spoehr, Mike Becker, Barb Walbruck, LeRoy Schmandt, and Marlyn Hoewisch.

The Memorial Service for Wally will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 2, 2026 at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London with Rev. Kevin Westra officiating.  The visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.  Burial will be at a later date.

The family would like to thank ThedaCare Hospice and The Pines in Embarrass, caregiver - Rachel Krueger, who treated dad like family, guardian - Vicki Bartel, friends, Dwane and Doug; additional caregivers over the many years, and the best neighbors in the world, Oscar and Shirley.

Dad, we will miss your snarky, sassy comebacks – your one liners – your Donald Duck voice – your insatiable sweet tooth (always trying to eat dessert first – in case the meal made you too full) - your special enduring/and some not so enduring nick-names for everyone – your thumbs up and especially your smile.  See ya later alligator – after while crocodile.  It's not good bye – it's see you later.  (Give Grandma Walbruck a huge hug from all of us down here)
