Wayne Sawall's Military Honors

Wayne Sawall's Memorial

Wayne "Wiener" Sawall, age 90, went to his eternal home on April 11, 2022.  Wayne was born to Roy and Elizabeth (Hayward) Sawall on September 27 th , 1931, in New London, WI.

Wayne served in the US Army from 1951 – 1953 and worked at Simons in New London for 32 years.  He was known for painting the crib that Tabitha used on the TV series "Bewitched".  He never had a driver's license or drove a car a day in his life, but always managed to get where he was going.  Never had children of his own, but had the heart of a father.  He never had a lot of money but lived a "Rich" full life.  His greatest love was to make the rounds with the good old boys' Billy and Pat.  And when he met up with HairBall there was never a dull moment.  He loved taking the shake of the day, getting on Packer Boards, and was known to dance on a bar stool or two, hoo hoo!  Wayne was a master of hoarding cards while playing dirty louie on Saturdays mornings at Huckleberry.  Wayne was known all around town and the surrounding areas by many people, who watched over him, and he cherished their friendship.

Wayne is survived by his sister Shirley Schwan, Appleton, nieces Nancy Abel, Sue White, Mary Schwan, Linda Polley, Judi Schertz, and his Godchild, Carol "Peachy" Wagner. He is also survived by his two nephews Greg Schwan and Dr. Steven Schwan and his two former step-children Julie (Corey) Berg and Kevin Beattie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Dorothy (Sawall) Finger and her husband Glyndon, brothers-in-law, Lawrence Beyer, Richard Schwan, and his beloved dog OJ.

A special thank you to the Hospice Employees and the CNAs that came in and ministered to Wayne in his final days, also to his friend Leo and his son Todd for taking him to his appointments, and "Peachy" who stayed as long as she was able with Wayne before he went to his eternal home.

He was loved by his two former step-children, Julie Berg and Kevin Beattie, and went on many "road trips", though different in nature, he enjoyed them all, especially the Polka Festival in Pulaski, the Hodag, and all the scenic detours we went on every time we went to the VA in Milwaukee.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, from 11-2 p.m. at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home followed by Full Military Rites at Floral Hill Cemetery in New London.  A celebration of life will be held at the Waterfront Bar & Grill, New London immediately after the military honors.
